An Exclusive Exhibition Tracing 160 Years of History

On Friday, February 7th, Tissot hosted an exclusive event, "TISSOT: INNOVATORS BY TRADITION," at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. Featuring archive pieces exhibited outside of Switzerland for the first time, it offered a unique opportunity to survey the brand's 160-year journey and its future vision.

From 160 Years of Heritage to a New Century

Since its founding in 1853, Tissot has consistently introduced timepieces equipped with innovative technology. The exclusive event showcased 35 archive pieces, displayed outside of Switzerland for the first time, alongside 35 of Tissot's recent masterpieces.

The exhibition highlighted items that trace Tissot's path of innovation in design and technology, including the "Antimagnetique" from 1930—the world's first wristwatch with entirely antimagnetic components—and the "Rock Watch," "Pearl Watch," and "Wood Watch" series, which utilized natural materials.

Also on display were the "Navigator," a 1953 world timer featuring rotating city names for 24 time zones (a world first), and its 2013 revival model. Additionally, the exhibition featured the "Astrolon," the world's first movement made entirely of plastic, and models equipped with the "Powermatic 80," where a new interpretation of plastic material enabled a long power reserve. It was truly an exhibition that allowed visitors to experience Tissot's 160 years of tradition, its present, and its future.

Following the exhibition, the entertainment program featured "Le Ombre" from the United States, presenting their first-ever silhouette performance in Japan. Set to Vivaldi's "Winter" from "The Four Seasons," their original program captivated the audience by expressing the brand's spirit of yearning for the unknown and its drive for challenge.
