American Classic Reborn Across 70 Years

The new 'Marlin Quartz 34mm' is the latest addition to the 'Marlin' series, revived in 2017, based on archives from the 1950s era of mechanical watches that featured dustproof, waterproof, and shock-resistant capabilities.

The history of the Marlin series dates back to the mid-1950s. It was the first model to appear under the 'TIMEX' brand during the 'U.S. TIME' era, before the company name was changed to TIMEX. At that time, quartz watches did not exist; it was an era of purely mechanical timepieces. In the world of precision mechanical watches, waterproof and highly durable watches were limited to high price ranges, making them inaccessible to the average consumer.

Amidst this market environment, TIMEX developed the durable 'V-CONIC' movement using an alloy called 'Armalloy.' The Marlin series was launched into the market with an accessible price point, offering both water resistance and shock resistance.

This innovative approach proved successful, and the product, combining practicality and reliability, became a huge hit. Its demand expanded, coinciding with the post-war economic growth period, leading to its availability in 250,000 stores across the United States. The Marlin, which created a new value proposition of 'high-quality dress watches at an affordable price,' became an icon of American watch culture.

The new model updates the design as a 34mm quartz watch. It faithfully reproduces the size and silhouette of the original with its charming acrylic domed crystal. Combined with an embossed leather strap featuring a crocodile pattern, it achieves a classic beauty while offering a style suitable for modern daily wear.

Although the 34mm diameter is considered small by today's standards, this modest size is precisely what enhances its dignified, classic appeal. In addition to its neat profile that tucks perfectly under a cuff, the fully polished stainless steel case and slim bezel give it a presence that belies its size.

The dial features a bombé design with a curved surface, a testament to its meticulous craftsmanship. A railway minute track is placed around the outer edge, and the embossed, three-dimensional indices, combining Roman numerals and bar markers, achieve both legibility and a sense of luxury.

The case is polished to a brilliant shine, creating a stylish and elegant appearance. The thin lugs feature 'lug holes' on the sides, a detail often found on vintage watches, enhancing the integrated look with the case.

The crown, designed to naturally fit the hand when winding, offers both excellent operability and a refined texture through its precise chamfering and sharp knurling.
