The Speedmaster, instrumental in humanity's first manned flight to the moon, makes a triumphant return!

Directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Ryan Gosling, the team behind the 2017 Academy Award-winning film 'La La Land' (which garnered six awards including Best Director), 'First Man' is a drama that depicts the struggles of the crew and NASA personnel undertaking humanity's first manned mission to the moon, seen through the eyes of astronaut Neil Armstrong.

The film focuses on Armstrong, played by Gosling, and chronicles the approximately ten years leading up to the historic Apollo 11 mission to the moon. To ensure historical accuracy, the OMEGA Speedmaster, worn by Armstrong during the actual flight, is featured prominently.

In the film, the Speedmaster worn by Armstrong during his Apollo program training is the same model worn by Gemini program astronaut Ed White during his spacewalk on June 3, 1965, the first American spacewalk. The famous 'Moonwatch,' also known as such, is worn by all Apollo 11 crew members during the moon landing scenes.

In 1964, NASA sought a timepiece capable of withstanding the rigors of space exploration, and OMEGA's Speedmaster passed its stringent tests. Consequently, on March 1, 1965, the OMEGA Speedmaster was officially certified for all manned spaceflight missions. Since then, OMEGA has been the sole provider of watches for NASA's manned space missions, with the Speedmaster used in programs from Mercury and Gemini to Apollo, and continuing to the present day aboard the International Space Station.
