A Dress Watch Merging Japanese Traditional Crafts and Watchmaking Mastery
Born in 1974, CREDOR is a series of luxury dress watches with a rich individuality, born from Japanese aesthetics and exquisite craftsmanship. True to its name, which means "golden peak" in French, it is a brand that continues to protect beauty and quality by pouring the skills of master artisans into every detail, from the movement to the smallest components.
The new lacquer dial models from CREDOR are watches that fuse tradition and innovation, featuring decorations crafted with traditional Japanese mother-of-pearl inlay and lacquer techniques, powered by SEIKO's proprietary Spring Drive caliber.
Raden is a traditional craft technique where shaped pieces of shell are adhered to a base with lacquer, then coated with more lacquer. The excess lacquer is then polished away to reveal the shell. The raden inlay on this limited edition model is meticulously finished by hand, one piece at a time, by artisans at "Urushi Yamada Heian-do," a long-established lacquerware manufacturer.
The dial artfully arranges the elegant scene of a cherry blossom blizzard on a moonlit night into a simple, contemporary design, woven with techniques of raden and maki-e. The petals, rendered in mother-of-pearl, are placed with precise calculation of their orientation, size, and hue, a feat achieved by skilled raden artisans.
A subtle contrast is created by scattering platinum maki-e, emitting a soft glow, behind the sparkling raden. The power reserve indicator at the top of the dial is designed to resemble a mystical crescent moon, and along with the cherry blossom motif at the 4 o'clock position, it vividly portrays a spring night scene.
Mother-of-pearl raden inlay adorns the hour markers at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock, while platinum maki-e is used for the other hour markers, ensuring both beauty and legibility.
The movement is SEIKO's unique Spring Drive Caliber 7R87, which, like a mechanical watch, is powered by a mainspring, but is regulated by an IC and quartz crystal. This high-performance movement, a fusion of masterful skill and advanced technology, is meticulously hand-assembled by highly skilled technicians at SEIKO EPSON's Shiojiri facility, the "Shinshu Toki no Takumi Kobo" (Shinshu Time Artisans' Studio), boasting exceptional accuracy.
