Developed Over Five Years by a Single Watchmaker
An Ultra-Astronomical Watch Featuring 23 Complications

At the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) held on November 8, 2017, the "Mechanical Exception Watch Prize," awarded to the most mechanically sophisticated model, went to the "Les Cabinotiers Celestia Astronomical Grand Complication 3600." This timepiece reaffirmed Vacheron Constantin's innovation and excellence.

Double-Faced, with an Ultra-Long Three-Week Power Reserve

Vacheron Constantin has developed the "Les Cabinotiers Celestia Astronomical Grand Complication 3600," a wristwatch equipped with a tourbillon, a three-week power reserve, and 23 astronomical indications.

The development of the new mechanism was undertaken by a single master watchmaker. The mechanism was created from scratch, requiring two years for design and five years for completion.

The double-faced movement displays 15 functions on the front. It prominently features mean solar time (equation of time) alongside standard time, a perpetual calendar, moon phases, and tidal indications that combine a 3D depiction of the Earth-Moon-Sun relationship with tide levels. A scale at 6 o'clock also indicates the length of day and night.

"Standard time" refers to the commonly used time display. In contrast, "solar time" is based on the actual movement of the sun, with a difference of up to plus or minus 16 minutes over a year. While existing equation watches can display this difference, this model uniquely shows both standard and solar time simultaneously. The standard time is indicated by a silver hand, and the solar time by a gold hand.

The display on the reverse side is composed of two sapphire crystals. One depicts the celestial sphere, sidereal time minutes, and cardinal directions. Overlaid on this is another sapphire crystal showing the constellations visible from the Northern Hemisphere, the ecliptic (the apparent path of the sun throughout the year), and the celestial equator (the extension of Earth's equatorial plane into space). A tourbillon is mounted at the 6 o'clock position.

Despite incorporating a tourbillon, a long power reserve, and 23 astronomical functions, the watch is housed in a case measuring 45mm in diameter and 13.6mm in thickness, a testament to its advanced engineering.
