A Remarkably Rare Model, Dormant for Decades
The watch that sold at auction is a historically significant model, yet it has been preserved in exceptional condition with a captivating appearance. This piece, featuring the complex "Guillaume Tempé Tourbillon Escapement," was a pioneer among complicated timepieces. For Omega, this was the first prototype tourbillon crafted in the late 1940s, but it never reached the market or even participated in observatory accuracy competitions. It is truly a phantom prototype, undiscovered for many years.
The 37.5mm stainless steel case houses Omega's manual-winding Calibre 30 I, with the Omega logo adorning the dial and buckle. In addition to the watch, the buyer received a certificate confirming the watch's production year as 1947 and its status as the sole surviving example of an Omega Tourbillon 30 I from that era.
