A. Lange & Söhne unveils its sixth Handwerkskunst edition, the "1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst," a timepiece adorned with the brand's signature craftsmanship. It was presented in Florence, Italy.

The Sixth Handwerkskunst Edition

The "Handwerkskunst Edition," known for its artistic decoration meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans, welcomes its sixth new model.

Inspired by the night sky, this piece marks the first time A. Lange & Söhne has combined enamel firing with engraving for its dial decoration. Stars are rendered in relief on solid white gold, with a deep blue glaze fired to create a three-dimensional effect on the moon phase, lending it a captivating depth.

The case back depicts a celestial myth. Within a relief circle, the Roman goddess of the moon, Luna, is portrayed wearing a veil that billows in the wind, her head crowned with a crescent moon.

Opening the case back reveals the artistic chronograph movement, equipped with a rattrapante mechanism. This mechanism, enabling the measurement of multiple consecutive lap times, is characterized by the integration of a dedicated column wheel for controlling both the chronograph and rattrapante functions.

The decoration of the movement itself is also noteworthy. Following the tradition of historical pocket watches, the surface features a fine granular texture, and the stars depicted on the dial are echoed on the German silver three-quarter plate, with the entire movement comprising 631 individual parts.

The calendar correctly displays leap years up to 2100. It also features a function that alerts the user when the mainspring requires winding, before its full 42-hour power reserve is depleted.
