The final of the 35th America's Cup, which has traveled the globe, was held in the Bermuda Islands in the North Atlantic from May 2017. Team New Zealand took an 8-win lead against the defending boat, Team USA, and on June 26, 2017, they were crowned champions.

OMEGA has supported Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) since 1995, when the legendary America's Cup figure Sir Peter Blake became a brand ambassador. For over 20 years since, OMEGA has stood by the team.

In anticipation of the 35th America's Cup, OMEGA provided a new timepiece to all crew members: the "Speedmaster X-33 Regatta." Since only essential items can be brought aboard a racing yacht, the X-33 Regatta had to be an indispensable tool not only during the race but also for crucial moments before the start.

This X-33, which combines analog and digital displays, is equipped with a sophisticated "Regatta" function that can count down the critical five minutes before the race start. The sequence of alarms changes, signaling the crew audibly and allowing them to focus on preparation. Once the race begins, it can also measure elapsed race time.

While an ultimate instrument befitting racing yachts that pursue speed, it's also noteworthy that OMEGA's America's Cup model is accessible to everyone. The case is crafted from brushed Grade 2 titanium. The black dial features a combination of a blue ring and white transfer markers, designed for easy readability of the digital display.

The bezel is adorned with stars not only at the 60-second mark but also at the 15, 30, and 45-second positions, inspired by the Southern Cross on the New Zealand flag.

The case back employs a double-back system to achieve excellent acoustic performance for the alarm function. The outer back is fitted with eight screws, featuring the Emirates Team New Zealand logo in the center, and engraved with "CHALLENGER FOR THE 35TH AMERICA’S CUP," "X-33 REGATTA," and the limited edition number.

OMEGA's Profound History with Marine Watches

OMEGA has had a deep connection with the sea since its early days. Long before venturing into the world of sailing, in 1932, OMEGA developed the world's first commercially available diver's watch, which gained popularity among marine explorers and professional divers. Since then, OMEGA's marine watches have been loved and trusted by people worldwide.

It is only natural that OMEGA, with its proven track record at sea and underwater, would eventually develop a passion for sailing. In addition to its sponsorship of Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ), OMEGA has also contributed to sailing as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games.

For example, at the 2016 Rio Olympics, OMEGA partnered with the renowned sailor Torben Grael, who brought home five medals for Brazil, and his daughter Martine Grael and her sailing partner

Kahena Kunze (both gold medalists in the women's 49er FX class). OMEGA also supports ETNZ crew members when they compete individually as representatives of New Zealand.

Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA Swiss, expressed his great excitement about the results of this competition,

saying, "All of us at OMEGA are thrilled by this magnificent victory. We have followed the journey of Emirates Team New Zealand in the America's Cup from the very beginning and have always believed in their success. They arrived at this race in Bermuda with strong teamwork and the best possible equipment. Personally, I am proud to have witnessed and supported this competition up close.

It is an honor that OMEGA could contribute to this victory."

Meanwhile, the "Planet Ocean" ETNZ model "Deep Black," another special edition, evokes the blue and red of the New Zealand flag. Its ceramic bezel, housed in a black ceramic case, features a diving scale made of OMEGA Liquidmetal®, designed to count down the 15 minutes before the race.

The first 10 minutes are indicated by a blue and red rubber scale (the colors of the New Zealand flag), and the last 5 minutes are counted down using the Liquidmetal® scale. The dot at the 12 o'clock position is coated with Super-LumiNova, glowing green in the dark.
