Vacheron Constantin Presents New Timepieces for its 260th Anniversary | VACHERON CONSTANTIN

VACHERON CONSTANTIN

Celebrating 260 Years: A Stunning New Collection Unveiled (1)

Last year, Vacheron Constantin unveiled a host of new models in advance of the S.I.H.H. (Geneva Watch Days) in January. Now, celebrating its 260th anniversary as the world's oldest watchmaking maison, the brand presents a breathtaking lineup at this year's Watches & Wonders in Hong Kong. They showcased the world's most complicated watch for its public debut, alongside chronographs inspired by past masterpieces and a new ladies' collection, presenting an exceptionally rich array of new creations.

Recreating the Allure of a Collector's Piece

Among the new models for 2015 at WATCHES & WONDERS, one that horological enthusiasts absolutely cannot miss is this classic, hand-wound chronograph with a two-counter dial. As the collection name 'Historiques' and the year '1955' suggest, this new creation is based on the highly coveted 1955 reference 'Ref. 6087', a masterpiece that was the maison's first to feature water and magnetic resistance.

While the column-wheel hand-wound chronograph movement, 'Caliber 1142', is naturally captivating, visible through the platinum case's exhibition case back—slightly larger at 38.5mm than the original—and finished by hand with the Geneva Seal, the dial design is equally worthy of admiration, inviting endless contemplation. It features a 30-minute counter, small seconds, applied indices, white gold hands, and a royal blue tachymeter scale. The ox horn-shaped lugs complete the ensemble. Everything harmonizes perfectly, elegantly captivating you.

Celebrating 260 Years: A Stunning New Collection Unveiled (2)

Elegant Secret Watches Born from the Maison's Heritage

Alongside the chronographs, the models that best showcase Vacheron Constantin's prowess among the new releases are the elegant and luxurious 'Égérie' collection, comprising three ladies' watches that carry on the maison's heritage across three distinct eras. Particularly captivating among these is the 'Égérie "Égérie" Secret', inspired by a fan-shaped pendant watch created in 1919 during the Art Deco period.

A portion of the fan slides open as a shutter, revealing a mother-of-pearl dial and two hands that gracefully tell the time. The jewelry itself is exquisitely crafted and beautiful even when the shutter is closed. This piece evokes the image of a sophisticated woman, possessing both a glamorous, avant-garde facade and a demure side.

Celebrating 260 Years: A Stunning New Collection Unveiled (3)

The World's Most Complicated Watch, Featuring 57 Functions

A true luxury maison possesses a bespoke department capable of fulfilling intricate client requests. Vacheron Constantin has a long history of fully accommodating such client desires. The 'Reference 57260' is a supremely complex timepiece that rewrites watchmaking history, commissioned by a client who desired 'the world's most complicated watch.' It was researched and developed over eight years by three master watchmakers in the current bespoke department, known as 'Atelier Cabinotiers.' The name 'Reference 57260' was chosen as its completion coincided with the maison's 260th anniversary. Only one piece was made, and its price is undisclosed.

At WATCHES & WONDERS 2015, this exceptionally rare piece, which had previously only been shown to a select few watch industry professionals in private viewings in Geneva and Tokyo, was exhibited for the first time globally, alongside other rare pocket watches that the maison had created for wealthy Americans and Egyptian royalty in the past.

Due to the extreme complexity of its functions, further details can be found in related articles on Oppers and on the maison's dedicated website below.
