New Slim Models Featuring New Movements Arrive (1)

Last year, in 2014,WATCHES & WONDERSPanerai garnered attention by unveiling its first in-house thin automatic movement, the Caliber P.4000, and models equipped with it. This year in Hong Kong, they further expanded their lineup of easy-to-wear slim models with the introduction of the new thin manual-winding movement, Caliber P.1000, and its accompanying models, as well as automatic models featuring the P.4000 unveiled last year in a 42mm Radiomir 1940 case. For enthusiasts, special models with titanium cases in DLC black coating on Luminor are also not to be missed.

A Rare Limited Edition Dedicated to the Genius Galileo Galilei

When one thinks of Italian scientists, Galileo Galilei immediately comes to mind, the great figure who discovered the law of the isochronism of the pendulum, a fundamental principle of mechanical timekeeping. Panerai has long paid homage to him, including sponsoring the Galileo Museum in Florence. To commemorate him, the "Lo Scienziato" series was introduced as their highest-tier collection. The latest creation announced in Hong Kong features a see-through dial and a Tourbillon GMT function housed in a Radiomir 1940 case.

The movement is the Caliber P.2005/S skeleton movement, developed in Panerai Manufacture's "Workshop of Ideas" in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Equipped with three barrels, it powers the 30-second tourbillon mechanism at 11 o'clock and the GMT function for approximately six days. A power reserve indicator is also visible on the back of the movement. With a limited production of only 30 pieces, this is a coveted timepiece that any Panerai collector would aspire to own.

New Slim Models Featuring New Movements Arrive (2)

The Long-Awaited Slim Manual-Winding Model

Panerai, with its origins as the world's first military diver's watch and a simple, functional design featuring a large, sandwich-structured dial with bold luminous hands, has a wide fan base for its style that embodies the fundamental functions of a watch. However, the case size, particularly its thickness, is a major deterrent for purchases, not only for women but also for men. There has long been a demand from both men and women for models that fit with business attire while retaining the traditional style.

Continuing from last year, Panerai has responded to this demand by introducing the new manual-winding slim movement, the three-day Caliber P.1000, and its accompanying models in the classic "Radiomir 1940 case." While two materials are available – stainless steel and red gold – the stainless steel model, which comes with a light green alligator strap, is particularly noteworthy.

This is an ideal timepiece as Panerai's first model and as a unisex option. Furthermore, the addition of automatic models equipped with the Caliber P.4000, unveiled last year, in this case is also a welcome, albeit understated, piece of news.

New Slim Models Featuring New Movements Arrive (3)

New GMT Movement with 10-Day Power Reserve

This is the latest complication model in the Radiomir collection, housed in a classic and luxurious red gold Radiomir 1940 case. It features a newly developed automatic movement with a GMT function and an approximately 10-day power reserve, the Caliber P.2003/10, which is also the brand's first skeletonized movement. The second time zone (GMT) indication is shown by the AM/PM indicator located to the left of the small seconds at 9 o'clock, and by the second hour hand coaxial with the main hour and minute hands.

While the GMT mechanism, approximately 10-day power reserve, and seconds reset function are compelling, the elegant appearance of the red gold case and the brown soleil dial is also a significant attraction of this special model. For those seeking a more robust aesthetic, a version with a black dial and the same functions is also available.

Black Titanium Model Coveted by Luminor Fans

While the "Radiomir 1940" case models are prominent at WATCHES & WONDERS 2015, Panerai has also prepared two special models in the "Luminor 1950" case for contemporary Luminor fans. These are limited edition special models, each with 300 pieces, combining a titanium case with black DLC coating with either the standard Arabic numeral and bar index type or the "California dial" type using Roman numerals.

The movement is the manual-winding P.3000. Whether to choose the California dial or the dial with the OP logo as pictured is a difficult decision for Panerai fans, as the price is the same for both.
