A Commemorative Model Combining Accuracy, Legibility, and Beauty

In 2015, Grand Seiko celebrated its 55th anniversary. Launched in 1960 as a timepiece befitting Japan's highest quality standards, on par with Swiss counterparts, it aimed for the utmost precision. In 1966, its own standard, known as the GS standard, was established, comparable to Swiss chronometers. Today, the lineup includes mechanical watches that meet the even more stringent new GS standard, surpassing certified chronometers; Spring Drive, a unique Seiko drive system; and quartz watches with groundbreaking technology such as temperature compensation, offering an annual deviation of just ±10 seconds.

This commemorative watch, celebrating a milestone in the GS's history, is a special version equipped with the Spring Drive Chronograph GMT. It features a movement that enhances the accuracy of the standard model—which achieves high precision with an average monthly rate of ±15 seconds through the fusion of mechanical and quartz technology—to an average monthly rate of ±10 seconds. The design, which not only improves chronograph measurement accuracy but also meticulously considers the tactile feel of the push buttons, is truly exquisite.

The movement, Cal. 9R96, visible through the see-through case back, is meticulously finished and exudes a special aura, complete with a golden medallion bearing the GS lion emblem, the symbol of Grand Seiko.

The dial is a deep navy blue, the brand's color, befitting an anniversary. It embodies Seiko's design philosophy, prioritizing legibility. Furthermore, ceramic has been adopted for the bezel material for the first time in Grand Seiko's history. Its exceptionally smooth, polished surface boasts a beautiful luster and deep hue, resulting in a special model worthy of this memorial occasion.
