George Clooney and Others Celebrate the History of the Speedmaster
The OMEGA Speedmaster has been at the forefront of lunar exploration since humanity's first moon landing in 1969. To celebrate its storied history, a special event was held on May 12th (local time) in Houston, Texas. Attendees included brand ambassador and actor George Clooney, as well as astronauts with ties to Houston: Eugene Cernan and Apollo 13 commander Jim Lovell.

Venue Designed Like a Spaceship, Featuring Launch and Moon Landing Effects
The venue, decorated like a starry sky within an airplane hangar, evoked the atmosphere of a spaceship. After a special sound effect simulated liftoff from Earth, the space transformed into a dazzling lunar landscape. George Clooney, joining the legendary astronauts on stage, expressed his gratitude: "There was a time in this country when we needed people like you to dream. You are our inspiration. Please let me convey how honored I am to be here with you tonight."
Also in attendance were fashion icon Lynn Wyatt, philanthropist Becca Cason Thrash, NFL player Chester Pitts, and actress JoAnna Garcia, all joining to celebrate.
Worn by astronauts on all six lunar landings, the Speedmaster is affectionately known as the "Moonwatch." The 2015 collection includes the "Speedmaster '57," the "Speedmaster Apollo 13 Silver Snoopy Award 45th Anniversary," and the "Speedmaster White Side of the Moon," inspired by the moon's appearance from Earth. Additionally, four new models have been added to the "Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon" series.
OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart touched upon the special relationship between OMEGA and the Apollo 13 mission, stating, "It was an unbelievable incident for OMEGA. It could have been a terrible tragedy, but instead, it turned out to be a wonderful outcome. That event is now an important part of OMEGA's heritage."
