In 2019, marking the 25th anniversary of A. Lange & Söhne’s iconic LANGE 1, the final model in the 10-piece anniversary collection was released: the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON “25th Anniversary,” limited to just 25 pieces worldwide. Based on the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON, a model not currently in the collection, this timepiece is a fitting culmination of the anniversary celebrations.

The LANGE 1 TOURBILLON, first presented in 2000, garnered attention as the world’s first wristwatch to combine a tourbillon, an outsize date display, and a power reserve of three days, all within a single mainspring barrel. In 2010, three models in honey gold were produced as part of the “Homage to F. A. Lange” anniversary collection celebrating 165 years of the company, including the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON. Honey gold, true to its name, has a warm hue reminiscent of honey. It boasts significantly higher hardness than platinum and is an alloy whose secrets are closely guarded by Lange’s manufacture, which holds exclusive rights to its use.

In 2014, the LANGE 1 TOURBILLON “HANDWERKSKUNST,” a platinum version celebrating the 20th anniversary of the LANGE 1, was created in a limited run of 20 pieces. This model, the fourth in the Handwerkskunst series, featured exceptionally elaborate decorative finishing and a black enamel dial.

The 2019 LANGE 1 TOURBILLON is unified by the silver and blue two-tone color scheme common to all 10 models in the anniversary collection. Its 38.5mm white gold case houses a solid silver dial finished in silver, with the outsize date numerals printed in blue. The blue steel hands provide a striking contrast, creating a beautifully finished timepiece.

The one-minute tourbillon, supported by two diamond endstones, incorporates a stop-seconds mechanism. This patented technology allows the balance wheel to be instantaneously stopped within the rotating tourbillon cage, its movement visible through the large opening on the dial and the glass disc for the ones digit of the outsize date.

The tourbillon bridge, part of the dial, exhibits a lustrous sheen unique to its black polish finish. Looking at the movement, the bridges for the tourbillon and intermediate wheel feature hand-engraved decorations. The engraved lines, coated in blue, reflect the consistent color concept. The relief engraving of the outsize date, a hallmark of the anniversary collection, is inscribed on the intermediate wheel bridge.
