MICHEL HERBELIN

A French watch brand that landed in Japan last year

Michel Herbelin is a French watch brand founded in 1947. The Jura Mountains, a mecca for Swiss watchmaking, also extend into France on its northern side, and the company manufactures its watches in Charquemont, a town on the French side of the Jura region. It is an independent watch manufacturer with a presence in 50 countries worldwide. The brand is known for supplying beautifully designed timepieces. Incorporating the founder's strong passion for the sea into its watches, the "Newport Yacht Club" collection, inspired by the American port town of Newport, serves as its flagship model.

Design inspired by a yacht's porthole

The "Newport Yacht Club" collection is inspired by yacht clubs in American port towns. Its wide, flat, matte bezel is highly distinctive and evokes the image of a yacht's porthole.

At the 12 o'clock position, an applied index reminiscent of a ship's wheel is placed, and the strap attachments at the top and bottom are also designed to resemble the hinges of a porthole.

The indices and hands are also shaped like ship components, showcasing meticulous design. The dial's color is beautiful, with a delicate sunray finish that adds a refined touch, coloring the dial with a gradient. This model features a unified navy blue for the dial and strap, the season's trending color, further emphasizing the oceanic theme of the brand and collection. It is also an excellent value automatic model with a respectable 100-meter water resistance, making it a watch that can be actively recommended to those new to mechanical timepieces.

Limited edition model with a skeletonized design

The 2015 limited edition of the flagship "Newport Yacht Club" model features a skeletonized design. While retaining the basic silhouette inspired by a yacht's porthole, both the dial and case back are made see-through.

The main plate and bridges of the movement are skeletonized to the maximum extent possible, allowing the wearer to fully appreciate the mechanism, from the unwinding of the mainspring and the sequential movement of the gear train to the high-speed action of the escapement and the operation of the gears driving the hands.

Compact & smart ladies' model

The "Salambo Leather" is a new collection introduced in 2015. The case is characterized by its soft, curved form. The case gently slopes outwards at the edge, transitioning through rounded edges to smoothly connect to the case back.

It is a small, round model with a case that gives a slim impression. The crown is also positioned on the sloping surface that connects to the case back, making it appear compact when viewed from the front.

The dial features a gentle slope, and a radiating decorative pattern is engraved around the indices, emphasizing its elegance. Small crystals are set at the dot indices, their sparkle adding a feminine touch.

Furthermore, the leather strap is exceptionally slender. It is a graceful and charming wristwatch.
