Achieving 80-Hour Power Reserve & High Precision with a Simple Structure

The "Powermatic 80" movement, offering approximately 80 hours of power, is featured for the first time in the world. A simple and standard three-hand automatic watch debuted at Baselworld.

To achieve a long power reserve (extended running time), the conventional approach is to use a thicker mainspring with greater return force and increase the number of barrels storing the mainspring to enhance stored energy. This "Luxury Automatic," a simple and standard three-hand automatic watch, is the first in the world to incorporate the "Powermatic 80" movement, which overturns this common wisdom with its innovative concept.

Specifically, by using a special material for the escapement and reducing its vibration frequency from 28,800 vibrations per hour (8 beats per second) to 21,600 vibrations per hour (6 beats per second), energy consumption is reduced. To compensate, the mainspring within the barrel, which stores the driving energy, is made thinner than conventional ones, with less return force. This allows for a significantly longer mainspring.

As a result, while maintaining a similar movement size, it achieves approximately 80 hours of running time, more than double the conventional approximately 36 hours. Furthermore, by employing a free-sprung balance without a regulating index for the balance spring and using a special timing screw on the balance wheel, it achieves high timekeeping accuracy despite the lower vibration frequency.

The price, under 100,000 yen for a certified chronometer and under 80,000 yen for the standard model, is nothing short of astonishing. This is a standard watch that can be recommended to anyone, regardless of generation.
