An Elegant Aesthetic Unified by Blue Tones
Founded in 1845, A. Lange & Söhne laid the foundation for the high-watchmaking industry in Saxony. However, after being nationalized by the East German government following World War II, its name briefly faded from public memory. The brand was revived in 1990 by Walter Lange, the great-grandson of founder Ferdinand Adolph Lange.
Then, on October 24, 1994, Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein, instrumental in the brand's re-establishment, unveiled the first collection of the revived brand at the Dresden Royal Palace. Among the four timepieces presented was the "Lange 1." To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this watch's creation, the "Lange 1 '25th Anniversary'" is being offered in a limited edition of 250 pieces worldwide.
Its distinctive feature is an elegant aesthetic unified by blue tones, with a silver-toned dial set slightly lower to create a clear border, complemented by deep blue numerals and markers, and blue numerals for the date display. While the exterior has seen minimal changes since its initial release, the watch is equipped with the manually wound L121.1 calibre, newly developed in 2015. Technical advancements are evident, incorporating a sudden-change outsize date display and Lange's proprietary free-sprung balance spring.
Furthermore, this meticulously hand-finished and decorated movement, like the original L901.0 calibre of the Lange 1, features hallmarks of Lange's quality: a twin mainspring barrel providing a 72-hour power reserve, a three-quarter plate made of German silver that highlights the material's characteristics, eight gold chatons, and a hand-engraved balance cock.
Additionally, the white gold case back is adorned with a relief engraving of the Lange manufactory, completed in 1873, along with the names of Walter Lange and Günter Blümlein, and "25 JAHRE LANGE 1" (25 Years of Lange 1). The hand-engraved lines on the balance cock are highlighted with blue coloring, creating a design befitting an anniversary model.
