The "Velvet" Collection: Dedicated to the Independent Woman (1)

This year, Roger Dubuis's booth was designed to resemble a photo studio. The "Velvet" collection, inspired by the diverse facets of womanhood, was spectacularly presented across five themes.

The "Velvet" Model for the Independent Woman

First introduced in 2012, the "Velvet" collection this year features not only intricate mechanisms but also luxurious finishes, such as dials adorned with exquisite enamelwork. Each encounter with such meticulous craftsmanship reaffirms Roger Dubuis's status as a premier manufacture.

A Ladies' Model Perfected by Enamel and Jewels

A beautifully adorned woman deserves a beautiful flower. The "Blossom Velvet Blue," a new ladies' model from the "Velvet" line, is a timepiece that strongly evokes this sentiment.

The first thing that captivates is the floral motif covering the dial. The mother-of-pearl dial features stems crafted from white gold, upon which flowers are meticulously arranged. Petals and leaves are shaped using Grand Feu enamel, with diamonds set at their centers. The exquisite craftsmanship is breathtaking, earning the admiration of anyone who beholds it.

Furthermore, a total of 154 diamonds (approximately 1.9 carats) are set: 86 on the bezel and lugs, 48 within the barrel-shaped center of the dial, six at the center of the flowers, and 14 on the buckle.

A striking design feature is the double-layered bezel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, with openwork detailing, a signature element of the "Velvet" collection. The combination of gem-setting and intricate detailing demonstrates flawless execution, a testament to Roger Dubuis's superior external finishing techniques.

Collaboration with "Massaro," a Shoe Brand Loved by Celebrities

To further enhance the feminine image of "Velvet" for the "Velvet Diva Year," special designs were created. These are the "Velvet by Massaro" timepieces.

Massarois a renowned shoemaker based in Paris, France. Since its founding in 1894, the maison has crafted elegant footwear for a global clientele of celebrities. Its relatively low profile among the Japanese public stems from its focus on women's shoes and its operation as a small atelier specializing in haute couture and bespoke orders, with very little ready-to-wear production. While a small men's ready-to-wear line does exist, its launch was heralded as major news in high-fashion women's magazines, underscoring its prestige in the realm of custom-made women's footwear.

For this collaboration, Massaro has designed watch straps to complement the "Velvet" collection.

What is particularly impressive is that matching shoes, designed by Massaro, were actually created. Both the shoes and straps are stunning. The design prominently features gold, exuding a luxurious image.

The leather straps feature a pleated finish, with a raised line running down the center, creating a strong accent. This pleating and linear detail is echoed on the back of the shoe's heel, subtly indicating a shared design language.

Furthermore, a tonneau shape, common to this "Velvet" series, is placed near the center of the watch dial. This area is finished in gold, matching the strap and shoes, and is further embellished with 162 small diamonds, unifying the overall design. This prominent use of gold asserts a powerful presence, making it the perfect ensemble for a glamorous cocktail party. The watch itself, beyond its aesthetic appeal, is a masterpiece that elegantly showcases Roger Dubuis's exceptional movements and brilliant gem-setting techniques.
