Case Sizes Unified into Three Types

Jaeger-LeCoultre's rectangular model, the "Reverso," developed in response to the demand for a wristwatch that wouldn't risk damaging its crystal during polo matches, has reached its 85th year. To celebrate this milestone, Jaeger-LeCoultre announced a bold reorganization of the "Reverso" collection.

The details were met with shock among industry insiders. The "Reverso" is a classic among classics, highly popular, and has thus catered to every facet of customer demand. While this led to a wide array of sizes and functions, it also blurred the collection's identity and structure.

The "Reverso" collection has now been streamlined into three sizes for the core "Reverso Classic" line: Small, Medium, and Large. Above these, the dual-time display models "Reverso Classic Large Duo" and "Reverso Classic Duetto" are offered. Additionally, a more compact and elegant "Reverso One" collection has been introduced for women.

Fitting for a milestone year, tribute models have also been prepared, marking a new chapter for the "Reverso."

Solidifying the Status of Regular Models

First, I would like to introduce the "Reverso Classic," the ultimate classic model. Previously, the "Reverso" came in sizes and designs such as "Classic," "Grande," and "Big." This time, under the "Classic" name, three sizes—Large, Medium, and Small—are offered, with the Large and Medium models being released first.

The design has also been refined based on the traditional "Classic." Rail-track minute markers are placed just inside the Arabic numerals, with Clous de Paris decoration on the inner part and a hairline finish on the outer. Further enhancing its prestige, the outermost edge features another layer of Clous de Paris decoration, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship befitting a prestigious brand.

Both the Large and Medium models are equipped with Caliber 965, a highly refined automatic movement with two hands. Naturally, it meets Jaeger-LeCoultre's stringent "1000 Hour Control" certification, ensuring exceptional reliability in every aspect.

The reverse side of the iconic reversible case offers the service to engrave original graphics, as before (for a fee). It is a wonderful way to double the joy by inscribing special words or designs befitting a life milestone and the watch's anniversary.

A key feature of the "Reverso" is its reversible case, which allows for a second dial or function to be incorporated on the opposite side. The "Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon" is a highly complicated model born from this concept, showcasing exceptional technical prowess.

The tourbillon carriage at 6 o'clock is particularly captivating. The carriage of the hand-wound Caliber 179 features a dual structure: the outer carriage rotates horizontally every minute, while the inner carriage completes a vertical rotation every 12.6 seconds at ultra-high speed. This mechanism creates a complex, three-dimensional, dance-like movement.

Comparing the newly designed Gyrotourbillon with Jaeger-LeCoultre's previously developed Gyrotourbillons, all technical expertise has been focused on fitting it into the "Reverso" case, achieving a 40% space reduction compared to conventional models. This movement also incorporates Jaeger-LeCoultre's proprietary cylindrical hairspring.

This is an extremely challenging complication, and like the "Reverso Duo," it can display different times on both the front and back of the watch, with the front even featuring a day-night indicator.

Intricate etching adorns even the smallest parts, including the movement's mainplate, bridges, and the barrel housing the mainspring, making it truly see-through. The reverse side, displaying the second time zone, offers a clear view of the watch's gear train and allows for appreciation of the precise mechanics leading to the tourbillon carriage.

The "Tribute" models celebrating the "Reverso's" 85th anniversary extend beyond the "Gyrotourbillon." The "Reverso Tribute Calendar" features a triple calendar displaying the day, month, and date, along with a moon phase indicator. The moon phase mechanism, an astronomical display, requires a highly complex system, making its integration into the Reverso case a significant technical feat. Both are considered "petite complications."

The manual-winding Caliber 853 displays the day and month via discs at 12 o'clock. The date is indicated by a pointer, positioned at 6 o'clock and coaxial with the moon phase. This arrangement for the full calendar (triple calendar + moon phase) is exceptionally functional.

Furthermore, the Art Deco-inspired design, with rail-track minute markers on the dial's periphery, combined with three-dimensional Dauphine hands and applied wedge-shaped indices, exudes a sense of luxury. When the case is reversed, a modern slate-grey dial is revealed, displaying a second time zone with a day-night indicator.

The brilliance of the pink gold case is captivating, making this a watch befitting the "Tribute" designation, both inside and out.

The "Reverso One," a ladies' collection, has been crafted to resonate with female sensibilities. While the "Reverso" traditionally adheres to a specific aspect ratio, the "Reverso One" adopts a golden ratio that appeals to the female eye, differing from the mathematically derived proportions.

For instance, the "Reverso One Cordonnet" featured here, despite its reversible case which can appear robust, is finished with a slim profile. The interplay of stainless steel and pink gold is also particularly effective.

"Cordonnet," meaning thin cord in French, is inspired by a model developed for women in 1936, reflecting the brand's long-standing emphasis on ladies' timepieces.

The introduction of a new collection for women underscores Jaeger-LeCoultre's commitment to the "Reverso" line.
