Official Timekeeper for Mercedes GP

Founded in 1995, GRAHAM is a Swiss watch brand that inherits the creativity of George Graham, a genius British watchmaker and chronograph developer active in the 18th century. It produces automatic chronographs, tourbillontourbillons, flyback chronographs, and chronographs with foudroyante (1/8th second measurement) functions, many of which are special in both function and design, garnering strong support from a dedicated male clientele.

The highlight of Baselworld 2011 was becoming the official timekeeper for F1's top team, "Mercedes GP," spearheaded by "the greatest F1 driver of all time," Michael Schumacher. To commemorate this, a new model named "Mercedes GP Time Zone" was unveiled at an exhibition held in a rented restaurant near Baselworld.

A GMT model that fits perfectly on Japanese wrists

GRAHAM's signature is undoubtedly the "Chronofighter," a thick, large chronograph with a unique lever mechanism designed for pilots and bombardiers to operate even while wearing gloves. While various interpretations appear each year, this year saw the release of a formidable model with a matte black dial, inspired by the B17, a large, high-speed bomber of World War II known as the "Flying Fortress."

However, what we want to introduce to OPENERS readers today is the "Silverstone Time Zone," a new GMT model with the same size and basic functions as the aforementioned "Mercedes GP Time Zone." GRAHAM watches were synonymous with "large and thick chronographs," but this model is perhaps the first slim and wearable GMT watch from the brand. It retains GRAHAM's distinctive look while being remarkably affordable at just under 400,000 yen, a significant draw. We highly recommend this to those who have admired GRAHAM but hesitated due to the size and weight of their watches.

A GMT model with a simple face, exuding a racing spirit

Breaking the convention of "GRAHAM watches = large and thick chronographs," this is an automatic watch with a GMT hand for a second time zone, completing a full rotation of the dial in 24 hours. Visibility is excellent thanks to the large Arabic numeral indices and thick hands coated with Super-LumiNova. The case size is also a perfect 42mm diameter for the wrists of Japanese men. It's available in three color variations, including a type with a black carbon dial, orange indices, and a racing blue 24-hour bezel, which is a welcome addition.

Automatic, 42mm stainless steel case, black calfskin strap with stitching, see-through case back, 50m water resistance, 399,000 yen.
