The "MTG-3000" is astonishingly thin for a G-SHOCK! Exquisite design that adults can easily wear, perfected.
In 2023, G-SHOCK marks its 40th anniversary. The "MT-G" series, introduced in November 1999, has a long history. "Metal Twisted - G-SHOCK" (the acronym for MT-G) derives from its hybrid case, which uses metal and resin in appropriate places. This year, the "MT-G" series introduces its thinnest-ever model, with a case thickness of 12.1mm. While maintaining its high shock resistance, it adopts the high-density mounting technology cultivated with OCEANUS. The case structure has also evolved, resulting in an unprecedented design. Behold the new "MT-G" that opens the door to a new stage.

Applying OCEANUS Technology to G-SHOCK's Advanced Shock-Resistant Structure
The pursuit of shock resistance has culminated in a robust case embodying "toughness," which has remained an icon of G-SHOCK. However, with the advent of the "MTG-B3000," that icon is about to change. This is because it achieves a case thickness of 12.1mm, the thinnest in "MT-G" history. The model number has also been updated to "MTG-B3000," indicating that the "MT-G" has entered a new phase.
While significantly thinner, the specifications have not been compromised. Furthermore, its style inherits the three-dimensional and complex structural beauty that is the DNA of "G-SHOCK," and the dial, composed of sharp-edged parts, conveys a sense of depth. This is truly the face of "G-SHOCK."
The edges are sharply defined not only on the case but also on all parts of the dial. This design expresses G-SHOCK's identity of shock resistance.
The mark on the case back is a logo representing the "Triple G Resist" tough structure, which withstands the three gravitational accelerations of impact, centrifugal force, and vibration.
The left side also presents a tough and sharp appearance. The G-SHOCK essence is pursued from every angle.
The "MTG-B3000" can be said to be a "G-SHOCK" that, while preserving its G-SHOCK identity, is easy for adults to wear and something adults would want to use.
So, what has changed? Let me explain step by step.
The first is the "evolution of the structure."
The core guard structure protects the module, which has continued to evolve uniquely in the "MTG-B1000" and "MTG-B2000" series. By combining metal and resin and pursuing specific shapes, high shock resistance is achieved.
The "MT-G" series employs its proprietary "metal core guard structure" for its shock-resistant construction. Introduced in the "MTG-S1000" released in 2013, it also incorporates "Triple G Resist," which combines shock resistance, resistance to centrifugal force, and vibration resistance. By refining these elements, "MT-G" has pursued its unique shock resistance. Subsequently, the metal core guard structure evolved with the MTG-B1000 released in 2018.
In the "MTG-B2000," announced in 2020, the "dual core guard structure" was developed and incorporated, merging the metal core guard structure with a carbon core guard structure. This structure sandwiches a metal outer case and bezel around a monocoque case made of carbon fiber-reinforced resin, which houses the module. This simultaneously achieves high strength, high density, and weight reduction, while also increasing the proportion of metal used in the exterior, resulting in a more premium "MT-G" appearance than ever before.
With this in mind, let's examine the evolution of the "dual core guard structure" in this model. The key points are a "fundamental review of the bezel's role and structure" and the "case back."
In the new "dual core guard" structure, the carbon fiber-reinforced resin case housing the module is enclosed by the case back and bezel.
Previously, the bezel protected the push buttons and crown. In this new design, seven large claws extending from the case back to the bezel fulfill this function. The module is housed in a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case, and enclosing it with the case back and bezel enhances rigidity.
The second point is the "evolution of the case back," which features these seven large claws.
The case back was the deciding factor in achieving the slim profile. By creating a raised side profile, it serves the role of a side guard, protecting the crown and push buttons.
Its greatest feature is its unibody construction. Being a single piece without unnecessary parts allows the entire case back to absorb and disperse impact. Furthermore, the reduced number of connecting parts enables miniaturization and weight reduction. However, its shape is three-dimensional and complex, requiring advanced molding technology. The part is created through repeated processes of pressing, cutting, and polishing. It is no exaggeration to say that this part's completion enabled the case to achieve both thinness and shock resistance, making it the core of the new structure.
And third is the "evolution of the thin module."
A shock-resistant, thin module with a thickness of 12.1mm, born from the fusion of OCEANUS's thin module technology and "MT-G's" shock resistance technology.

While pursuing miniaturization and thinning of parts, Casio has focused on integrating electronic components using its advanced high-density mounting technology, optimizing the circuit board layout while maintaining shock resistance. As a result, the module thickness has been reduced by 1.45mm to 3.48mm compared to the "MTG-B1000." The dual approach of standard radio wave reception and smartphone linking, while maintaining ease of use, also benefited from deliberately avoiding GPS functionality, which tends to increase module size.
And here, OCEANUS's technology comes into play. Initially, the thin module developed for OCEANUS "OCW-S5000" was considered for the "MTG-B3000." However, that module would have struggled to pass G-SHOCK's shock resistance tests. Therefore, based on the module for the "OCW-S5000," development of a new module began, resulting in the new module for the "MTG-B3000" that achieves both shock resistance and a slim profile.
Finally, the evolution of "MT-G" also extends to the band.
This is the newly developed "one-push exchangeable band structure," which allows for easy band replacement without the need for tools. Changing the band is as simple as pressing the buttons on both sides of the lug. The push buttons are large and easy to press, and the moderate tactile feedback when pressed is also pleasant. The mechanism is designed so that the band releases only when both push buttons are pressed simultaneously, preventing accidental detachment if only one is pressed.
The newly developed "one-push exchangeable band structure" enhances usability. The band can be easily removed by pressing the push buttons on the sides of both lugs, without the need for special tools.
The mechanism releases the band when both left and right push buttons are pressed simultaneously. The band will not detach if only one is pressed, ensuring safety.
The layered composite band, which incorporates fine resin parts on the back of the metal band, is a popular feature inherited from the previous model. It is praised for its comfortable feel even when sweating.
In addition to the layered composite band (¥33,000 including tax) available for purchase as an exchangeable band, a lightweight soft urethane band (pictured, ¥16,500 including tax) is also available separately. You can enjoy customizing it to match your style.
Band replacement is not a primary function of a watch. Nevertheless, I was impressed by the meticulous craftsmanship and the fact that no corners were cut. It stays securely attached even when subjected to impact and can withstand repeated band changes—this demonstrates the reason for G-SHOCK's continuous evolution and its pride.
"Evolution of structure," "Evolution of case back," and "Evolution of thin module." The "MTG-B3000," the thinnest in "MT-G" history, is born from these three evolutions. With its arrival, the image of G-SHOCK being thick is now a thing of the past. The slimness improves wearability, and the ability to freely change bands allows for coordination tailored to one's style.
In today's diverse working styles, the "MT-G" is increasingly standing out in business settings. Indeed, adults, more than anyone, can fully appreciate the appeal and performance of the "MTG-3000."
