A World of Timepieces Passed Down Through Generations
Cartier has forged its own path not only in jewelry but also in watchmaking. In 1904, shortly after the advent of airplanes, they introduced the Santos, the first men's wristwatch designed to be readable in flight. In 1912, they unveiled the 'Mystery Clock,' a masterpiece of watchmaking, whose hands appear to float in mid-air.
These timepieces, born from creativity and technical prowess, astonished many and have been passed down as Cartier's standard to this day. Today, the Maison boasts over 30 original in-house movements, with staff from more than 175 different professions each responsible for individual parts. The creation process in the ateliers is supported by numerous artisans.
The short film 'Shape Your Time,' expressing Cartier's proud watchmaking world, is now available on the Maison's mini-site. The 90-second film unfolds a narrative from early inventions to classic models of today, and the creation of future timepieces.
It is also noteworthy that the story is dramatically depicted through the perspective of a boy gazing at a shop window with his father. This short film teaches us that watches are treasures passed down through generations, and that we too live within that tradition.
