Since its debut in 1998, the "Cabaret" has garnered acclaim for its elegantly curved rectangular case. True to its name, which means "cabaret" in English, this is a masterpiece that evokes the elegance of a bygone era.
First and foremost is the "outsize date" display, a signature of Lange. To show the date prominently, two discs are required, and achieving this in a conventional rectangular watch is extremely challenging due to space constraints. However, the company developed a proprietary new mechanism to maximize space efficiency, enabling a large date display. This relentless pursuit of functionality, extending beyond mere aesthetic craftsmanship, exemplifies the pride of a 'cloud-top' brand.
Turning the watch over reveals the rectangular movement, "Cal. L931.3," visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Rather than fitting a round, generic movement into a rectangular case, Lange's characteristic meticulousness is evident in its use of a purpose-built rectangular movement. By developing a movement tailored to the case's form, it avoids unnecessarily enlarging the case, maintaining a refined proportion befitting a gentleman's wrist.
