Founded in Germany in 1845, A. Lange & Söhne experienced a period of dormancy during the division of East and West Germany before its revival in 1990. For this esteemed brand, 2007 marked a record-breaking year.

Among its numerous accolades, the "2007 Watch of the Year" awards in Vienna saw the "LANGE 31" win in the "Complicated Movements" category and the "GRAND SAXONIA AUTOMATIK" honored in the "Classical Elegance" category. Furthermore, in a reader poll conducted by the Austrian national newspaper "Die Presse," A. Lange & Söhne watches were voted number one for the eleventh time.

BRAND HISTORY
In the early 19th century, during the zenith of the Kingdom of Saxony's prosperity, Ferdinand Adolph Lange trained under court watchmaker Friedrich Gutkaes in Dresden, aspiring to become a master watchmaker himself. The brand's history began with the watchmaking workshop he established on the outskirts of Dresden.

Adolf Lange not only devised innovations such as the three-quarter plate, still renowned today as a traditional technique, but also developed a succession of tools essential for component manufacturing. By widely disseminating manufacturing methods for each component to his apprentices, he laid the foundation for the brand within a single generation.

While maintaining family management, the company produced pocket watches and wristwatches utilizing the manufacturing techniques of court watchmakers, growing into a top European watch brand by the early 20th century. However, its operations were temporarily halted by World War II. After the war, the esteemed name of A. Lange & Söhne fell into a period of dormancy in history, having been confiscated and integrated into state-owned enterprises in former East Germany.

Yet, in 1990, with the reunification of East and West Germany, Walter Lange, the great-grandson of the founder, masterfully revived the region's former watchmaking heritage. He poured the accumulated expertise and decorative techniques from the Kingdom of Saxony era into the field of wristwatches, subsequently unveiling a succession of exquisite masterpieces such as the "Lange 1" and "Datograph."

The brand continues to demonstrate an unyielding spirit of innovation, characteristic of Saxon craftsmanship, exemplified by its patents for the outsize date display using two discs and the zero-reset mechanism for precise second synchronization.
