BRAND HISTORY
H. Moser is a brand founded in 1828 in St. Petersburg, Russia, by Johann Heinrich Moser, who contributed to the modernization of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, and brought the watchmaking industry to the region.
The founder opened a watch workshop in Le Locle in 1829. After steadily growing his business with two bases in Russia and Switzerland, he returned to Schaffhausen in '48. In '51, he began construction of a hydroelectric power plant utilizing the Rhine River, and in '53, simultaneously established an organization involved in railway construction and opened a watch case manufacturing factory.
It is widely known among watch enthusiasts that he later contributed to the establishment of IWC, a brand planned by American watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones, thereby bringing the local industry of watchmaking to Schaffhausen.
H. Moser continued its operations based in Russia and Le Locle into the 20th century but temporarily withdrew from the watchmaking world in 1979. However, around 2000, as the appeal of mechanical watches began to be re-recognized globally, a revival project was initiated by several enthusiasts wishing for the return of H. Moser.
Led by independent watchmaker Andreas Strehler, they began producing highly sophisticated mechanical watches. In '06, coinciding with the founder's 200th birthday, they returned to the watchmaking world at Baselworld with the development of several timepieces, including the special perpetual calendar watch "Moser Perpetual." Through the production of models favored by connoisseurs, the brand rapidly regained global renown.
