The TUDOR Watch Collection
Founded in 1926 by Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of ROLEX, TUDOR is finally launching its official distribution in Japan this year after a long period of silence. The brand's signature lineup, including the "BLACK BAY," features high-spec movements developed and manufactured in-house, positioning it as a manufacture brand. Yet, the designs also reveal a strong affinity for fashion. Beyond stainless steel and leather straps, the traditional fabric straps, born from a 150-year-old workshop in Lyon, France, exude an authentic presence unmatched by the countless imitation products on the market. Yuma Tomoki, the editor-in-chief, styles pieces from the TUDOR collection, where possibilities expand with the combination of dial and strap. Actor Jun Murakami, a friend of 25 years, wears and embodies the looks.

BLACK BAY GMT
In this era, GMT watches are best paired with casual wear, not suits.
The "Black Bay GMT," unveiled at Baselworld 2018, draws inspiration from a 1950s diver's watch. It is equipped with the in-house Caliber MT5652, which introduces new functionality to TUDOR's manufacturing caliber. The burgundy and deep blue bezel, a hallmark of GMT watches, is popular among executives who travel across time zones. However, here it's intentionally paired with casual attire for a natural integration. "GMT watches with suits used to have a very fixed image, but TUDOR is classic, and in this era, it's more stylish to wear them more casually. This is a checked coat from JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR, which Murakami specifically requested to wear before the shoot. The vibrant Marni knit and long scarf were also chosen with a casual feel in mind. By using a fabric strap in the same color scheme as the bezel, the overall look is more subdued than with a stainless steel bracelet."
Denim pants ¥36,000 (JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR / JANTJE_ONTEMBAAR 03-6812-7106) Knit ¥67,000, Scarf (reference color) ¥77,000 (all MARNI / MARNI JAPAN 03-6416-1024) Boots ¥35,000 (HUNTER / HUNTER 0120-563-567) *Coat is stylist's own.
PELAGOS LHD
Embrace a vintage aesthetic for a country gentleman's look.
As indicated by the crown at the 9 o'clock position, the "Pelagos LHD" is a left-handed model introduced in 2016. Its design is based on a custom model ordered by the French Navy in the 1970s for left-handed divers. While modernly refining TUDOR's popular "snowflake" hands—nicknamed "ika-sub" (squid sub) due to their large luminous surface area for high visibility—it boasts a water resistance of 500 meters, making it a true professional diver's watch. "Leveraging the vintage feel of the hands and indices, I styled it with a country gentleman aesthetic in mind." Items like an Isabel Marant herringbone coat and a crinkled Marni jacket add a contemporary, rugged sensibility. "The large collar of the Marni shirt is a key point," Murakami notes, highlighting how this exquisite balance enhances the classic charm of the wristwatch.
Coat ¥138,000 (ISABEL MARANT HOMME / ISABEL MARANT 03-5772-0412) Jacket ¥168,000, Knit vest ¥67,000, Shirt ¥70,000 (all MARNI / MARNI JAPAN 03-6416-1024) Pants ¥79,000, Shoes ¥90,000 (LOEWE / LOEWE JAPAN CUSTOMER SERVICE 03-6215-6116)
BLACK BAY FIFTY-EIGHT
A design that harmonizes the mismatch between dressy and casual attire.
Named after 1958, the year TUDOR's first diver's watch was released, the "Black Bay Fifty-Eight" features a black dial with gold hands and indices, creating a luxurious impression while evoking a mid-century mood characteristic of the '50s. Its 39mm case diameter is slightly more understated compared to other models. For this shoot, it was deliberately paired with a suit. "I've combined a double-breasted suit with a Moncler corduroy down jacket to enjoy the mismatch between dressy and casual. Adding the 'Black Bay Fifty-Eight' here brings out a casualness that makes you want to drive out to the countryside in an SUV. For a gray suit, a sky blue shirt complements the mood better than a white one. The slightly playful choice of a tab collar is also a small detail." The red point at 12 o'clock is another detail that evokes a retro feel.
Fur-trimmed blouson ¥334,000 (MONCLER / MONCLER JAPAN 03-3486-2110) Suit ¥150,000 (SOVEREIGN / THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE 03-6212-2150) Shirt ¥13,000 (UNITED ARROWS / UNITED ARROWS ROPPONGI HILLS 03-5772-5501) *Tie is stylist's own.
BLACK BAY BRONZE
The aged look of bronze allows for the wear of unique clothing.
"Personally, this is my favorite colorway in the collection, easy to wear as fashion," says the "Black Bay Bronze." This model, as the name suggests, is the first in the "Black Bay" collection to feature a bronze case. Its large 43mm case and the Arabic numerals at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions—unique among the watches featured in this article—give it a distinct presence. The domed sapphire crystal further enhances the antique feel, complementing the bronze color. The look, which achieves this aged aesthetic right out of the box, adds depth to any styling. "Because the color is so striking, I picked up on it. Wearing something a bit unique, like a yellow knit vest, allows you to discover a different side of yourself. For this look, I've challenged myself with a bold military style."
Coat ¥238,000, Knit vest ¥145,000, Shirt ¥65,000, Pants ¥89,000, Necklace ¥80,000, Belt ¥32,000, Boots ¥80,000 (all MARNI / MARNI JAPAN 03-6416-1024)
BLACK BAY CHRONO
A highly designed chronograph that cleverly links with color coordination.
The "Black Bay Chrono," released at Baselworld 2017, has a slightly thicker case that adds a touch of refined masculinity. Its identity lies in the exquisite combination of classic hands, dot indices, and modern two-register chronographs, embodying both TUDOR's heritage and contemporary appeal. "Murakami is a huge Leica enthusiast. For this shoot, he brought his personal M8, which is pure white. So, the theme for this style is 'photographer.' I've always associated chronographs with a tough image, but when worn for everyday use, they project a strong fashion sense. This aligns with my image of a photographer (laughs). I chose a brown leather strap this time, intentionally matching the color with the reversed Loewe shearling and the leather shoes. Of course, the white turtleneck knit links with the M8."
Shearling coat ¥590,000 (LOEWE / LOEWE JAPAN CUSTOMER SERVICE 03-6215-6116) Suit ¥170,000 (CARUSO × TOMORROWLAND / TOMORROWLAND 0120-983-522) Turtleneck knit ¥42,000 (AMI ALEXANDRE MATTIUSSI / AMI OMOTESANDO 03-5778-4472) Shoes ¥115,000 (J.M. WESTON / J.M. WESTON AOYAMA 03-6805-1691)
