Modern Terakoya for Teens and Twenties, "School Nalanda Vol. 5," Opens for the First Time in Kyushu

School Nalanda, where lecturers from diverse fields such as scientists, engineers, and artists gather around Buddhism, creating unexpected chemical reactions each time. The fifth installment will be held for two days, February 8th (Sat) and 9th (Sun), 2020, at Gōshō-ji Temple in Saga, a renowned temple with a 1600-year history!

Featuring Kosuke Fujishima (Biologist), Ai Hasegawa (Artist), Masayo Funakoshi (Culinary Artist), Ureshino Tea Time (Tea Producers' Unit), and a Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha Monk as lecturers, with "Food" as the theme. First time held in Kyushu.

Nalanda's theme in Saga, a land blessed with the bounty of the sea, fields, and mountains, is "food."

A two-day event to contemplate with a diverse and distinguished lineup of lecturers: Kosuke Fujishima, an ambitious biologist challenging the mysteries of the origin of life on Earth; Ai Hasegawa, an artist expressing the relationship between technology and society; Masayo Funakoshi, a culinary artist with activities blending food, cultural anthropology, and art both domestically and internationally; Ureshino Tea Time, a producers' unit tackling challenges and innovation in Ureshino, Saga's tea region; and a monk from the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha sect.

Additionally, special programs include an original "Tea Ceremony" by Ureshino Tea Time, a traditional clay doll painting workshop, and a pasta tasting by Keita Yuge, a Saga native and winner of the 2019 World Pasta Championship.

The target audience is teenagers and young adults aged 10-20, who will shape the future society.
This is a place to gain wisdom and encounters that will provide hints for creating one's own "measuring stick" and taking action in an era of uncertain futures – this is [School Nalanda].
