An end to the "Iron Age" of desks. A "Kidou Desk" from a long-established Gifu lumber company, serving as the operating system for your space.
As work styles diversify, what should the "desk" be that supports our creativity? A long-established lumber company in Anpachi, Gifu, with 60 years of history, has arrived at one answer, garnering astonishing support on the crowdfunding service "Makuake." We delve into the next-generation electric standing desk, the "Kidou Desk," which far exceeded its funding goal at 2064% and raised over 10 million yen.
A Choice of Hardwood, Only Possible for a Lumber Company
Many electric standing desks on the market feature a uniform structure of "inorganic steel frames and pre-made tops," prioritizing efficiency. Shimizu Lumber Company calls this the "Iron Age" of desks and points to a fundamental issue: insufficient storage.
With the "Kidou Desk," they challenged themselves to utilize hardwoods, which are difficult to process and have been avoided for furniture use. Pouring in their deep knowledge and furniture manufacturing expertise cultivated over 60 years, they adopted two distinct solid woods for the tabletop: "Monkey Pod" and "White Ash." The warmth of natural wood, with its unique grain, brings a touch of the outdoors to the modern workspace.
Functionally, it also sets itself apart from existing products. Its most distinctive feature is the "dual-top structure," where the two tabletop sections move independently. By raising the rear section, a hidden storage space emerges, perfect for tidying away messy cables and documents. It's a system that physically creates an environment conducive to focus.
The lifting system uses a unit from the globally trusted Danish company LINAK. The controller, a recipient of the Red Dot Award, combines quiet operation, durability, and high aesthetic appeal.
President Shohei Ezaki states that this success is "merely the beginning of a vision." His sights are set on a future where dining tables transform according to lifestyle, and walls, ceilings, and floors are continuously updated. This is not about proposing individual pieces of Furniture, but about building an infrastructure – an "operating system for your space" – that supports your Residence.
The "Kidou Desk," crafted by professionals who understand authentic materials and enhanced with technology, is poised to bring new vitality to our workspaces, which have long pursued efficiency above all else.
