Rakudoan, an art hotel nestled within Toyama's unique Sangyo Village, which proposes "Regenerative Travel," is set to open in Autumn 2022.
In Autumn 2022, Rakudoan, a hotel and restaurant, will open in Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture, amidst the picturesque rural landscape of the Sangyo Village.
By regenerating a traditional Toyama "Azumadachi" farmhouse, approximately 120 years old, located within the Sangyo Village into a lodging facility, it proposes "Regenerative Travel." This concept aims for guests to connect with the land's "Dotoku" (virtue of the soil), leading to self-recovery, while a portion of their stay's revenue contributes to the preservation of the Sangyo Village and local traditional culture.
The architectural design is handled by "51%," renowned for creating timeless, sophisticated, and beautiful spaces.
Spaces and Art to Experience "Dotoku"
Rakudoan is a small-luxury accommodation for a maximum of three groups per day, revitalizing an approximately 120-year-old "Azumadachi" building surrounded by rice paddies on three sides. To seamlessly connect with the surrounding natural environment and history, ancient natural materials such as earth, wood, bamboo, Japanese paper, and silk are used in its construction.
The space is adorned with a curated collection ranging from high-quality Mingei (folk art) pieces by artists like Keisuke Serizawa, Shoji Hamada, and Kanjiro Kawai, to antiques from the Tang and Lee Joseon dynasties, and contemporary crafts and artworks. Guests can experience the "Dotoku"—the beauty created by people in harmony with nature—through these spaces and art pieces.

Regenerative Experiential Programs
Programs offered at Rakudoan include private lessons in tea ceremony and ikebana, Buddhist lectures rooted in Toyama's spiritual heritage, and agricultural experiences learning from local farmers. Additionally, plans are in place for tours of Toyama's traditional craft workshops and marine and mountain nature activities. These experiences are designed to foster self-recovery for guests, with a portion of the revenue contributing to the preservation of the Sangyo Village. This offers a timeless yet novel stay experience in Toyama, where guests can savor the "beauty created by people and nature together" through art, crafts, cuisine, and experiential programs.
