Globally Acclaimed Japanese Artist Tokujin Yoshioka Unveils New Art at GINZA SIX!
At GINZA SIX, the largest commercial facility in the Ginza area, an installation titled "Prismatic Cloud" by artist Tokujin Yoshioka will be exhibited in the central atrium space from February 27, 2020, until late October (scheduled).
Approximately 10,000 prism rods create a colossal sculpture of light.
In 2020, a year drawing global attention, the artist behind GINZA SIX's new centerpiece is Tokujin Yoshioka, an artist active in art, design, and architecture, renowned worldwide for his poetic and grand works inspired by nature. This piece, featuring a globally active Japanese artist, is a light sculpture envisioned as a colossal cloud.
This is the first time the work has been shown in Japan, adapted for GINZA SIX from its original presentation at the Allen Center in Houston in 2017. The 10-meter-long light sculpture, inspired by natural principles, creates countless transparent layers that refract light by stacking approximately 10,000 prism rods. Its appearance shifts depending on the viewing angle and eye level, allowing viewers to perceive the energy of nature beyond sensory experience by observing the cloud of light from various perspectives within the atrium.
The central atrium, a symbol of GINZA SIX, has previously hosted works by internationally renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Daniel Buren, Nicolas Buffe, Chiharu Shiota, and Klaus Haapaniemi, developing an inspiring art program filled with creative energy and wonder. Following the works of Kusama, Buren, and Shiota, the Mori Art Museum oversees this project, and works by other notable artists active both domestically and internationally are permanently exhibited throughout the facility.
