ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2023 to be Held, Merging Kyoto's History with Contemporary Art
ARTISTS' FAIR KYOTO 2023, an artist-led art fair set in the historic city of Kyoto, has been confirmed to take place.
The event will be held over two days: Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, 2023.
This marks the sixth iteration of the fair, which aims to provide a springboard for emerging artists and foster communication between artists and visitors, transcending the conventional boundaries of art fairs.
With the theme "Singularity of Art," the fair aspires to foster the emergence of new art systems yet to be discovered.
The directorial team includes Sho Tsubaki as director, and the advisory board, responsible for recommending young artists, has been newly expanded to include Koshi Ikegami, Motohiko Odani, and Miwa Yanagi, bringing the total to 16 members.
Forty emerging artists, brimming with potential and selected by the advisory board and through open applications, will exhibit their work. The main venues will be the Kyoto Museum of Culture, Annex, and the Kyoto Shimbun Building's first basement floor, with the scenic Japanese garden "Shosei-en (Kikoku-tei)" (a detached garden of Higashi Honganji Temple) also designated as an exhibition space.
Within these unique and atmospheric venues, a diverse range of artworks will be exhibited and sold, from paintings to installations utilizing cutting-edge technology. Following the previous year, satellite venues will be established throughout Kyoto, radiating from the main venue, and a project for nurturing young critics will continue. We anticipate this stimulating fair, which increasingly blurs the lines between art exhibitions and art fairs, will be a dynamic event.
