Talent from established and emerging artists converges in Kyoto this early spring for "ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2025."

ARTISTS’ FAIR KYOTO 2025, an artist-led art fair, will be held in Kyoto, a city steeped in history and tradition. The event runs from Friday, February 28 to Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Now in its eighth year, the fair aims to provide a springboard for emerging artists and foster direct communication between visitors and creators. Under the direction of Nobuo Tsuji, and with the theme "Singularity of Art," it seeks to promote the creation of a new art system that transcends the conventional boundaries of art fairs.

This year, Osamu James Nakagawa, who is active globally from his base in the United States, Michiko Tsuda, with her extensive experience in international art festivals, and Shinji Ohmaki, who garnered attention for his major solo exhibition at The National Art Center, Tokyo in 2023, will join the advisory board for the first time to recommend young artists. In addition, 16 artists with an international perspective, including Izumi Kato, Kohei Nawa, and Kenji Yanobe, are part of the advisory board.

The exhibiting artists will include 40 emerging artists selected by the advisory board and through an open call, with two participants from the United States. The fair aims to expand further, serving as an international hub for discovering and promoting new talent and disseminating new trends in art through a diverse, cross-border lineup.

The main venue will be the Kyoto National Museum's Meiji Kotokan, which served as a venue for the first time last year, and the basement floor of the Kyoto Shimbun Building, known for its industrial ambiance where works are often presented. At these unique venues, a wide range of artworks, from paintings to installations utilizing technology, will be exhibited and sold.
Additionally, satellite venues will be set up throughout Kyoto, and a project to foster young critics is also planned.

First-time Event! Exhibition by Advisory Board Artists to be Held at Tofuku-ji Temple, a Head Temple of the Rinzai Sect

An exhibition featuring the director and the advisory board members who recommend young artists will be held at Tofuku-ji Temple, a head temple of the Rinzai sect. The exhibition runs from Friday, February 28 to Thursday, March 6, 2025.

Tofuku-ji Temple, founded in the Kamakura period by Regent Michiie Kujo, is a renowned Zen Buddhist temple and one of the five great Zen temples of Kyoto. Alongside its magnificent structures, it is also known for the "Hasso-no-niwa" (Garden of Eight Views), now designated as a National Scenic Property, designed by Mirei Shigemori, a master of modern Japanese garden design.

In this exhibition, held in the symbolic Hojo space of Tofuku-ji Temple, surrounded by Mirei Shigemori's gardens, 15 artists active both domestically and internationally, including director Nobuo Tsuji and advisory board members Shinji Ohmaki, Osamu James Nakagawa, Izumi Kato, Michiko Tsuda, and Kohei Nawa, will present their representative works and new pieces.
We anticipate a feast of art that resonates across eras, set against the backdrop of Tofuku-ji Temple's 750-year history.
