Stylish and Aspiring for World Peace: The Sapeur Photography Exhibition Tours Four Venues Nationwide
In the heart of Africa's Congo, one of the world's poorest nations still gripped by civil war, there exists a group known as the Sapeurs. Despite living on roughly $250 a month, they don bespoke haute couture, projecting a message of global peace.
The Sapeurs embody a simple philosophy: "We don't fight because our clothes would get dirty," and "Society becomes more peaceful when we are stylish." Photographer SAP CHANO has dedicated himself to capturing these gentlemen.
An exhibition showcasing his photographs and films will tour four venues across Japan, beginning at Daimaru Shinsaibashi in September.
The first-ever Sapeur photography exhibition in Japan, held at Shibuya Seibu Department Store in March 2016, garnered significant attention. In July, an exhibition was also held in Okinawa, a region that, like Congo, has experienced the tragedy of war.
On both occasions, Severin, revered worldwide as a "Grand Sapeur," was invited to participate in talks held both within and outside the exhibition venues.
Now, a new project has launched on "CLOSS," a crowdfunding service specializing in fashion, to raise funds for Severin's return. The goal is to invite him once more.
Project rewards range widely, including exhibition invitations, access to exclusive CLOSS Sapeur private parties, and the opportunity for personal styling sessions with Severin himself.
Should the project succeed, it will offer a rare chance to hear the Sapeurs' message directly.
Those interested are encouraged to check out the dedicated page on CLOSS.
We want to invite Grand Sapeur Severin to the Sapeur Photography Exhibition touring four venues nationwide!
