Kachaka is PFRobotics' first autonomous mobile robot for home use, leveraging the technologies of PFRobotics and its parent company, Preferred Networks. Equipped with AI, it smoothly navigates indoor spaces based on voice commands or instructions from a dedicated app, transporting docked furniture to designated locations.

Applying technologies cultivated in the commercial robotics sector, it achieves flexible autonomous movement in residential environments, which have traditionally been challenging due to their dynamic nature.

Kachaka features a design by Gen Suzuki and the design innovation firm Takram, intended to blend seamlessly into any living space. Its minimalist, smooth, compact body integrates multiple sensors, cameras, LEDs, and a docking unit.

To ensure Kachaka can ascertain its position even in diverse and changing residential environments, a proprietary graph-based SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) technology was developed. It estimates its position and creates a map based on information from cameras, LiDAR (a sensor using laser light), and wheels, enabling accurate furniture transport without getting lost.

Furthermore, equipped with front and rear cameras, its deep learning-based image recognition technology distinguishes between people and furniture in captured images, providing enhanced navigation capabilities.

Additionally, with four built-in microphones, voice commands such as "Hey Kachaka, bring the kitchen shelf to the dining room" or "Hey Kachaka, bring it here" can be easily issued. To ensure voice commands are recognized amidst various ambient noises in a home environment, a proprietary machine learning model was optimized using the hyperparameter auto-optimization framework Optuna™, achieving lightweight yet highly accurate voice recognition.

Tailored to individual lifestyles, Kachaka supports "habit formation" through timer functions that deliver items like books or medication at the same time each day, helps alleviate the "invisible chores" that have become more apparent with increased time at home, and assists children in learning to tidy up, proving useful in a variety of applications.

Guided by the belief "Robots for everyone," PFRobotics will continue to update Kachaka based on user feedback. Through its smart furniture platform, the company aims to realize new living spaces that enable people to live more freely and creatively.
