From "formax," a new furniture series born from the collaboration with Japan's leading designers, Shin Azumi and Taiji Fujimori!
ESTIC, a furniture manufacturer founded in 1976, will launch a new furniture series next spring, developed in collaboration with leading Japanese designers Shin Azumi and Taiji Fujimori.
At the "ESTIC Formax Omotesando" showroom in Omotesando, a new exhibition was held from October 18th to November 4th, showcasing the "Banquette Optim" series, a new line of furniture that fuses dining and living areas, born from a collaboration with renowned product designer Shin Azumi. Also featured were "LOVAGE W," a sofa series that reinterprets the lightness of Windsor chairs by Taiji Fujimori, and the "PUNA" living table, whose glass surface appears to float like water.
Shin Azumi and formax have previously proposed "Banquette," a furniture series that merges dining and living spaces. This time, they unveil "Banquette Optim," an evolved iteration of that concept. The new series further optimizes dimensions for Japanese living, proposing unprecedented possibilities for the fusion of dining and sofa areas.
Shin Azumi's "Banquette Optim" & Taiji Fujimori's "LOVAGE W" Launching Next Spring
▶ Banquette Optim by Shin Azumi
The "Banquette" furniture series, launched in 2009, became a signature hit for formax, realizing a living space akin to the familiar Japanese "horigotatsu" (sunken hearth) with a modern design.
The series, with its concept of "combining a sofa and a dining table" and its realization through "substantial upholstery" and "contemporary design," was widely embraced. Now, after a decade, further potential has emerged.
The answer lies in this "Banquette Optim" series.
The new "Banquette Optim" series features a table size of 1400x800 as standard, with slightly smaller dimensions that are ideal for urban apartments.
Product Information
"Banquette Optim" comes in two designs: "Cove" and "Coast."
• The concept for "Cove" is "a sofa for dining."
• "Coast" offers a design that blends a sense of relaxed comfort with a contemporary aesthetic.
▶ LOVAGE W by Taiji Fujimori
This series adapts the form of the Windsor chair, a popular dining chair, into a sofa.
Spacious wooden spindles are gently connected by a curved top rail, into which cushion elements are integrated. This construction creates an enveloping interior space and a relaxed seating experience without the use of solid panels.
▶ PUNA by Taiji Fujimori
A table designed with a rounded wooden frame that securely encases the edges of the transparent glass, ensuring both safety and aesthetic appeal. The lower shelf, also made of wood and matching the frame's shape, provides a gentle presence. The interplay between the glass and frame evokes imagery of a calm water surface and its shore, with the lower shelf suggesting the water's bottom.
