A dedicated gallery, the first in Japan for HOUSE OF FINN JUHL, the new brand from Danish design master Finn Juhl, has opened at Otsuka Furniture's Ariake headquarters showroom.

Otsuka Kagu, a comprehensive interior retailer, has opened Japan's first dedicated gallery for "HOUSE OF FINN JUHL," a new brand from Danish design master Finn Juhl, at Otsuka Furniture's Ariake headquarters showroom on December 9th (Saturday).

The "HOUSE OF FINN JUHL" brand was unveiled at "Salone del Mobile.Milano," the world's largest furniture fair, held in April 2017.
Since 2001, when the Danish brand One collection obtained exclusive rights for furniture production and reissuance from Finn Juhl's wife, many iconic works have been reproduced with the highest quality and utmost respect.
After 16 years of reissuing Finn Juhl's works, the unique collection has grown to over 40 types and has now been established as an independent brand.

Numerous representative works in new specifications, created with the concept of a new brand, are on display.

The dedicated gallery will feature a special upholstery model of the "Pelican Chair," a representative work used in the "House of Finn Juhl Hakuba" hotel opened in December 2016, as well as a collection of rare "Nyhavn" series tables, desks, and sideboards, alongside numerous representative works in new specifications created with the concept of a new brand.

Exhibited Items (Examples)
Pelican Chair (1940)
This piece was designed by Finn Juhl under the influence of a sculptor's work.
It was named the Pelican Chair due to its resemblance to a pelican spreading its wings.
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price: ¥901,800 (tax included)

Poet Sofa (1941)
An early representative sofa by Finn Juhl, first presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition in 1941.
This sofa possesses the most charming form among Finn Juhl's works.
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price: ¥1,318,680 (tax included)

FJ64 chair (1964)

Additionally, the "FJ64" chair, which had not been produced before, will be specially exhibited for a limited time until the end of December.
Like other Finn Juhl models, the FJ64 chair is named after the year it was designed, and the product was completed using only watercolor sketches of Finn Juhl's designs, which are consistently present in his work.
This stacking chair, an unusual industrial design for Finn Juhl combining plastic and metal legs, still showcases the essence of his design in its form, the color scheme of the legs, and the wooden tips of the legs.
Until its commercialization in 2017, this chair was never produced as FJ64, and it is likely that not even a prototype was made. It is being unveiled for the first time in Japan to commemorate the opening of this dedicated gallery.

In addition, Finn Juhl's sketch posters drawn in watercolor are also on display, making this the first dedicated gallery in Japan where visitors can fully appreciate the world of Finn Juhl, known as the "sculptor of furniture."

Finn Juhl

Finn Juhl (Denmark, 1912-1989)

He created a unique world with his distinctive ideas and excellent sense of form, making Denmark known for its furniture worldwide. He was called the "sculptor of furniture" for the beauty of his forms and details.
He favored teak, a wood notoriously difficult to work with, and his improvements to its processing methods established teak as a primary material for Danish furniture, a significant achievement. His works are part of the collections in Danish embassies and museums around the world.
