"Wooden Straws" made from domestic timber are here! Seeking support for regional versions through crowdfunding.

Creco Lab, a company developing and selling products utilizing wood, launched a crowdfunding campaign on "Readyfor" titled "Bridging Water and Forests: Developing Wooden Straws from Timber Across Japan!" on September 24th.

The "Wooden Straws" were developed in 2018 as a product contributing to the global movement to reduce plastic and the UN's "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)". They are already available for purchase online and have been introduced at Chopard Japan, a luxury watch and jewelry maison.

The "Wooden Straws" are crafted by rolling thin sheets of domestic cedar and cypress wood, sliced to about 0.15mm, using a unique proprietary process. Made from real wood, they offer a warm and special tactile and visual experience, elevating even everyday drinks with a premium feel.

Through support on "Readyfor," this initiative aims to develop "Wooden Straws" using various tree species from across Japan. The project seeks to raise awareness that using Japanese timber not only revitalizes the forestry industry but also promotes proper forest management, thereby protecting the water stored within our forests.

【Features of "Wooden Straws"】
● Wood sheets sliced to an ultra-thin 0.15mm
Wood sheets, sliced to approximately 0.15mm from domestic timber, are rolled using a unique process to create the straws. *These wood sheets are also used as the material for Creco Lab's original product, "Wood Paper."
● A product that contributes to SDGs
As "Sustainable materials," the "Wooden Straws" contribute to the following initiatives among the 17 goals set forth by the SDGs:
12 Responsible Consumption and Production / 15 Life on Land
● Buying wood protects forests. Innovative straws utilizing domestic timber.
Approximately 40% of Japan's forests are artificial. Unlike natural forests, if artificial forests are neglected, the natural cycle falters, potentially leading to disasters like landslides. By utilizing (purchasing) domestic timber, funds are injected into forest management, leading to the conservation of artificial forests and the protection of nature.
