Five Artists Express Their Thoughts and Struggles in "Forms of the Soul," a Contemporary Glass Art Exhibition at Izumo Taisha Shrine
From July 22 (Saturday), the contemporary glass art exhibition "Forms of the Soul" will open at the Izumo Taisha Gallery Sakurabayashi in Hitachi Province.
Glass art pieces by five artists—Yuko Asakura, Masanori Kawabe, Motohide Takagi, Emi Hirose, and Motozo Honmura—will be exhibited and available for purchase.
Glass has a long-standing connection with the history of Izumo Taisha Shrine; it is said that 69 "Fukidama" (blown glass beads) were offered to the Emperor in place of magatama jewels.
Furthermore, a glass studio has been established within the grounds of Izumo Taisha Shrine.
The five artists skillfully manipulate molten glass at high temperatures, employing various techniques such as blowing, inflating, stretching, joining, and pouring to create their works.
The creation of glass, breathing a soul into each fleeting moment amidst the flow of time—past, present, and future—reflecting the artists' thoughts and struggles, can truly be called the creation of mysterious "Forms of the Soul."
This is the first exhibition of glass works by Japanese artists since the gallery opened in 2016.
The exhibition runs until September 10 (Sunday).
Don't miss it.
