Nissin Woodworks, a furniture manufacturer in Hida-Takayama specializing in dining chairs, has a history of crafting chairs known for their lightness, durability, and beauty from every angle.
The philosophy behind their craftsmanship begins with sourcing timber as logs and milling them in Hida-Takayama. There are two reasons for milling from logs. First, it allows for precise cutting of quarter-sawn and plain-sawn boards of varying thicknesses according to their intended use, and even utilizing offcuts to produce square timber, thereby minimizing wood waste. Second, it enables more thorough management of wood drying, leading to a supple yet robust construction.
The new solid wood dining set series, "CHORUS," fully leverages Nissin Woodworks' technical expertise. Welcoming Tomoyuki Matsuoka, a designer with experience studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, they have unveiled new chairs. These chairs are born from a commitment to solid wood, preserving the natural texture of the timber and designed for longevity.
Hida-Takayama Furniture Maker Nissin Woodworks Debuts New "CHORUS" Dining Set Series
In June 2019, Nissin Woodworks, a furniture manufacturer based in Hida-Takayama, Gifu Prefecture, launched its new series, "CHORUS."
The chairs, conceived from a deep understanding of the body's senses, possess a sculptural presence. This organic form is a testament to the exceptional skills of Nissin Woodworks' artisans, particularly their mastery of bentwood techniques. By reinterpreting elements from various chair designs, including Scandinavian, Ming Dynasty Chinese, and Shaker chairs, they achieve a versatility that harmonizes with diverse interiors.
