STUDIO DOUGHNUTS

A Space Born from Respect for Nature and Hospitality for Guests

Kamikochi, known for its stunning mountain scenery, is home to "Gosenjaku Lodge," a 100-year-old hub for tourism and exploration. The lodge has undergone a rebranding and reopened as "THE PARKLODGE Kamikochi." One of its rooms has been curated by the emerging design firm "STUDIO DOUGHNUTS," resulting in a space that beautifully leverages its scenic surroundings.

Where Indoors and Outdoors Merge into a Flow of Serene Time

STUDIO DOUGHNUTS, the design firm behind the interiors of popular shops like the grocery store "FOOD&COMPANY" and the restaurant "the Blind Donkey," and known for hosting the event "OLD FASHIONED"—a curated collection of food and goods presented with a unique perspective—is a dynamic presence in the design world.
At the newly reborn "THE PARKLODGE Kamikochi," following its rebranding, "STUDIO DOUGHNUTS" has produced one of its rooms.
Room 107, designed by the firm, features wood throughout its ceilings, walls, floors, and furniture. To maximize the sense of openness upon entering and to allow natural light to cast beautiful shadows in every corner, the space is designed with minimal partitions. This thoughtful approach creates a feeling of seamless integration between the interior and exterior when seated on the sofa bench, gazing out the window to the gentle sounds of the Azusa River. The concept of borrowed scenery perfectly captures this experience.
Cutlery, audio equipment, and other amenities were selected to complement the space. Furniture and hangers were crafted by "QUIET SPACE TOOL&FURNITURE," a workshop based in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Scent is also a key element, with a room spray from "Kurumaya Mokuzai," located near Kamikochi, used to enhance the atmosphere. Its unisex hinoki cypress fragrance enriches the space. The room wear, designed for both comfort and style, is by "MUYA," a brand known for its quality and aesthetic, based in Wakayama.
This hotel is an excellent base for exploring Kamikochi. It's a destination worth considering when visiting the area.
