A Five-Star Hotel Renovated from a Historic Building—JW Marriott Chicago
Chicago, the third-largest city in North America after New York and Los Angeles. As the birthplace of the skyscraper, its atmosphere bears a resemblance to New York. This compact city, only a fraction of New York's size in population and area, is densely packed with captivating attractions comparable to New York's, including art, architecture, entertainment, and gastronomy. This short series introduces the charms of Chicago by theme. In this sixth installment, we present the JW Marriott Chicago, one of Chicago's premier hotels where we stayed.
A Harmonious Blend of Classic and Modern, Much Like the City Itself
Chicago, the third-largest city in the U.S., boasts a wide array of appealing hotels, from luxury establishments like The Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and Conrad, to hip spots such as W and Ace Hotel. For this trip, we stayed at the JW Marriott Chicago.
Located in the business district, surrounded by skyscrapers including the Willis Tower, the second-tallest building in the U.S., the hotel is still within walking distance of the verdant Millennium Park and the Art Institute of Chicago. Its most compelling feature is its classic and stately interior and exterior. This is no surprise, as it was renovated from a historic building originally constructed in the early 20th century as the Continental and Commercial National Bank Building. The first-floor lobby is particularly breathtaking; simply being in the soaring, marble-clad space, illuminated by opulent chandeliers, is exhilarating.
Meanwhile, the guest rooms, with their high ceilings and sense of openness, offer a comfortable space where classic and modern elements are exquisitely fused. The spacious bathrooms feature separate bathtub and shower areas, allowing for a quick rinse or a relaxing soak to ease travel fatigue. Ample desk space and plush lounge chairs are also provided, making it tempting to linger in the room.
For those who don't want to skip their workouts while traveling, a sophisticated spa, indoor pool, and a fitness center equipped with state-of-the-art machines are open 24 hours. For instance, one could enjoy a light workout after breakfast, a swim in the pool, followed by a massage at the spa, creating a relaxing experience akin to a resort stay. If you have the luxury of a longer stay in Chicago, perhaps dedicating a day to such indulgence would be worthwhile.
The perfect way to cap off such a luxurious day is at "The Florentine," an Italian restaurant on the second floor. The cuisine, curated by Chef Zachary Walrath, offers modern interpretations of traditional Italian dishes, delighting both the eyes and the palate.
From its interior design to its hospitality, the JW Marriott Chicago, where classic and modern elements coexist harmoniously like the city itself, is sure to make your stay in Chicago even more special.
