A hotel stay that fuses dining and art, appealing to all five senses, as proposed by Janu Tokyo.
JANU TOKYO
Janu Tokyo is hosting a special collaboration with Tomokazu Matsuyama, a contemporary artist based in New York, titled "FOOD x ART at Janu Tokyo." This event coincides with Matsuyama's first solo exhibition in Tokyo, "Tomokazu Matsuyama: FIRST LAST," held at the Azabudai Hills Gallery. During this period, the "Afternoon Tea with Art by Tomokazu Matsuyama," offered at Janu Lounge & Garden Terrace on the fifth floor of Janu Tokyo, will feature colorful sweets inspired by Matsuyama's artwork, allowing guests to enjoy the flavors of spring alongside his art.
Spend Spring with Afternoon Tea Inspired by Art
Janu was born with a vision for a new era of travel, one that rejuvenates the mind, body, and spirit. The hotel is redefining luxury hospitality by focusing on genuine human connection, playfulness, and social wellness.
The "FOOD x ART at Janu Tokyo" collaboration is held in conjunction with Tomokazu Matsuyama's first solo exhibition in Tokyo, "Tomokazu Matsuyama: FIRST LAST," at the Azabudai Hills Gallery. It's a typically Janu social event that stimulates the senses across all elements.
At the hotel's six restaurants, visitors who present their exhibition ticket stub for the solo show will receive a welcome drink. Additionally, Matsuyama's art will be displayed in three locations within the hotel. Guests can savor their meals while immersing themselves in the exhibition's ambiance at unique dining venues such as "Janu Grill" offering grilled dishes, the Italian dining restaurant "Janu Mercato," and the modern Chinese restaurant "Hu-Ging."
The "Afternoon Tea with Art by Tomokazu Matsuyama" features colorful sweets inspired by Matsuyama's new series, "First Last." Yukie Noguchi, the pastry chef at Janu Tokyo, has created a vibrant array of delicious treats, including New York cheesecake, lemon tart, and strawberry panna cotta.
The savory selection includes Hida beef roast beef open sandwiches, a nod to Matsuyama's hometown of Gifu Prefecture, salmon mousse and vegetable millefeuille, and colorful vegetable bouillabaisse jelly with caviar, offering a feast for both the eyes and the palate.
Each tier is adorned with key imagery from Matsuyama's works: the first and third tiers feature art inspired by "Passage Immortalitas," while the second tier showcases the abstract painting "Keep Fishin’ For Twilight." These sweets invite guests to enjoy Matsuyama's world of color.
Furthermore, Matsuyama's new print, "Nice Quiet Hot Tears," will be available for purchase at the "Aman Essentials Boutique." This limited edition print of 30 pieces is notable for its vivid colors. Guests staying at Janu Tokyo during this period will receive an invitation to the "Tomokazu Matsuyama: FIRST LAST" exhibition at Azabudai Hills Gallery, and a collection of Matsuyama's artworks will be placed in their rooms.
Noriko Tanaka, the General Manager, commented on the collaboration: "Janu Tokyo aims to provide inspiring experiences through art, culture, and dining. We are honored to realize this with Tomokazu Matsuyama."
Tomokazu Matsuyama stated, "The exhibition and collaboration at Janu Tokyo are special experiences for me. I believe guests will enjoy a sense of unity with the art alongside my solo exhibition at Azabudai Hills Gallery."
"FOOD x ART at Janu Tokyo," a fusion of contemporary art and gastronomy, offers a unique opportunity to experience the essence of Tokyo today, intertwined with Tomokazu Matsuyama's artistic vision, at Janu Tokyo, an integral part of Azabudai Hills, which celebrates art, culture, and nature.

Tomokazu Matsuyama
A contemporary artist born in Gifu Prefecture in 1976 and based in Brooklyn. His work, primarily paintings, also includes sculptures and installations. Matsuyama organically connects and reconstructs polar elements such as Asia and Europe, ancient and modern, figurative and abstract, to create works that reflect his cross-cultural experiences and the ever-changing modern society in the information age. He has also undertaken large-scale public art projects, including a mural for Bowery Mural (New York, USA, 2019), "Kao" (Shinjuku East Entrance Station Square, Tokyo, 2020), and "Wheels of Fortune" at the "Jingu Art Festival" (Meiji Jingu, Tokyo, 2020). Recent major exhibitions include "Mythologiques" (Venice, 2024), "Tomokazu Matsuyama: When Snow, Moon, and Flowers Bloom" (Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art, 2023), and "MATSUYAMA Tomokazu: Fictional Landscape" (Powerlong Museum Shanghai, 2023). His work is also being exhibited at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris until February 2025.
