Conrad Maldives Rangali Island opened in 1997. It has continued to pursue pioneering and innovative challenges, such as opening the world's first underwater restaurant, "Ithaa Undersea," in 2005.

The culmination of these efforts is the newly opened "The Muraka," the world's first underwater residence. Its name, meaning "coral" in the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the vibrant underwater world, surrounded by colorful marine life.

"The Muraka," which can accommodate up to nine guests, is a two-story residence with an upper level situated above the sea and a lower level submerged beneath it. The lower level features a king-sized bedroom, living area, and bathroom, along with a spiral staircase connecting to the upper-level living room.

The lower level, located five meters below sea level, utilizes cutting-edge technology akin to that found in aquariums. In the bedroom, the elastic acrylic dome offers a 180-degree panoramic view of the Indian Ocean's marine life and coral reefs, allowing guests to experience the underwater world in its entirety.

The upper level boasts a twin-sized bedroom, bathroom, powder room, as well as a living room, kitchen, bar, dining room, and even a fitness gym, a private butler's quarters, and a security room, offering a comprehensive range of amenities.

The deck is strategically positioned and designed for sunset viewing, while the relaxation deck and infinity pool on the opposite side offer the opportunity to bask in the morning sun. Additionally, there is a king-sized bedroom and a bathroom where one can soak in a bathtub while gazing at the horizon.

The interior design of "The Muraka" was handled by Yuji Yamazaki, originally from Tokyo and now based in New York. This luxurious residence offers a unique perspective on the Maldives' stunning scenery from an entirely new vantage point: beneath the water.
