Founded in 1923, YAMAGIWA has always viewed lighting as an art form, striving to enhance light quality and advance technology. This year, the company relaunches as the "new YAMAGIWA." On Monday, October 28th, they will host the "1st Autumn YAMAGIWA Concert" at the Aichi Prefectural Arts Center Concert Hall, featuring world-renowned violinist Atsuko Tenma.

Until the end of September, YAMAGIWA is exhibiting lighting fixtures from the "VERPAN series," designed by Verner Panton, a leading figure in 1960s-70s Scandinavian interior design, at its Tokyo showroom. Light possesses the power to enrich the human spirit.This exhibition conveys YAMAGIWA's belief that light holds a power akin to that of a work of art.

At the "1st Autumn YAMAGIWA Concert" on Monday, October 28th, violinist Atsuko Tenma, famous for her rendition of Romanian composer Paul Constantinescu's "Ballade for Violin and Orchestra," will perform alongside pianist Aika Sakai. The program will feature a selection of masterpieces, including "Ballade," a piece that has become synonymous with Tenma's artistry.

YAMAGIWA|Concert 02

Atsuko Tenma / Violin
A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School, she studied under Yoshio Umino, the late Leonid Kogan, and Hermann Krebbers. During her studies, she won first prize at the Music Competition of Japan and a special silver medal at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition. Since then, she has enjoyed an international career. In 1993, she introduced "Ballade" by Romanian composer Paul Constantinescu to Japan, achieving an unprecedented hit in the classical music world.
Her CD album "Nemu no Ki no Komoriuta" (Lullaby of the Silk Tree), featuring "Japanese Songs," received the Planning Award at the 47th Japan Record Awards. Her 2012 recording, "Furusato no Uta" (Songs of My Hometown), topped the classical charts immediately upon release. Many of her CDs have been highly acclaimed and have become long-sellers. Her unpretentious, uniquely expressive performances and intense stage presence have earned her widespread admiration. She is currently a professor at the Toho College of Music Graduate School.





YAMAGIWA|Concert 03

Aika Sakai / Piano
A graduate of the music department of Shin-ai Gakuen High School and the piano department of the Instrumental Music Faculty at Kunitachi College of Music, she subsequently enrolled in the Utrecht Conservatory. She held recitals in the Netherlands, including at the Concertgebouw. After earning her State Performer's Qualification, she entered the master's program at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with top honors. She studied under Takako Iio, Ikuko Shindo, and Kazuki Fujii. She is an adjunct lecturer at Showa University of Music and a pianist for the Niki-kai Operetta Research Group.
