Kei AKAGI | Piano

Born in 1953. Spent his childhood from age 4 to 12 in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon returning to Japan, he encountered jazz music during high school. He studied philosophy and composition at International Christian University (ICU) before enrolling in the doctoral program in philosophy at the University of California. While at university, he also pursued musical activities as a composer, orchestrator, and pianist. From 1979, he was a pianist in the Airto Moreira & Flora Purim Group for seven years. Subsequently, after performing with groups such as Al Di Meola's, he was a member of the Miles Davis Band from 1989 to 1991. From 1991, he was part of the bands of Stanley Turrentine and Sadao Watanabe. In 1998, he formed the Kei Akagi Trio, which continues to the present.
