Incoherence
The Black Ghiandola
The lineup of approximately 200 films selected from Asia and around the world, available for screening and streaming, is now available on the official website (https://www.shortshorts.org/2020). Special screenings include Bong Joon-ho's short film "Incoherence," winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and four Academy Awards in 2020; the horror film "The Black Ghiandola," directed by Sam Raimi and starring David Lynch and Johnny Depp; and "Two Cars, One Night," by Taika Waititi, director of the 2020 Academy Award winner for Best Adapted Screenplay "Jojo Rabbit." These are among the highly anticipated selections.
Quarantine Mood
1 Bottle of Wine
The festival's expanded online offerings are also not to be missed. In collaboration with the "Corona Short Film Festival," which showcased videos created by international creators during their respective nationwide lockdowns, "Quarantine Mood," winner of the Audience Award, and "1 Bottle of Wine," winner of the Special Jury Award, will be screened online. Additionally, the online platform will feature limited-time access to past award-winning films until September 15 (Tuesday), with select films from this year's lineup, including the Kids Program and U-25 Project, being made available for early streaming. Live Q&A sessions allowing interactive engagement between audiences and directors/actors from Japan and abroad, as well as live streams of special events, are also planned.
This year, some awards will be announced prior to the festival. The winners of the Official Competition supported by Sony, including the George Lucas Award (the festival's Grand Prix), will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, September 27.
