The Great Gatsby Special Display Underway

Brooks Brothers, which will premiere on Friday, June 14th,The Great Gatsbyas a global partner, collaborated on the production of costumes for the film's male cast. To commemorate the release, from Saturday, May 18th to Sunday, June 23rd, an exclusive exhibition of costumes worn in the film will be held at the Brooks Brothers Marunouchi store. Additionally, the "Gatsby Collection," featuring costumes recreated from the original novel and updated with a modern flair, will be available in limited quantities at select Brooks Brothers stores.

Fitzgerald and Brooks Brothers: A Connection

After a delay of over six months, the film "The Great Gatsby," finally set to premiere on Friday, June 14th, was screened as the opening film at the 66th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, May 15th. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel "The Great Gatsby," which has been adapted for the screen numerous times, is brought back to life on an unimaginable scale with 3D visuals, interpreted uniquely by director Baz Luhrmann, known for works such as "Moulin Rouge."

This time, Brooks Brothers collaborated with Catherine Martin, Baz Luhrmann's wife and a two-time Academy Award-winning costume designer. They produced over 500 costumes, ranging from those worn by the lead actors to extras.

Ms. Martin studied the history of Brooks Brothers, researching not only the trends of the 1920s New York, the setting of "The Great Gatsby," but also the garments that Brooks Brothers introduced to America based on its archives. She then masterfully met the style envisioned by director Baz Luhrmann. Ms. Martin commented as follows:

"Fitzgerald was known as a customer of Brooks Brothers. This connection was simple and essential. Within Fitzgerald's novel, Brooks Brothers repeatedly introduced fine clothing to American luminaries through the ultimate gentleman. They were the undisputed partner for this costume production."

The provided costumes range from formal wear such as tuxedos to daily wear and accessories like ties. Based on Brooks Brothers' archives from the 1920s, the collection features a mix of textured fabrics and patterns. Furthermore, reinterpreted for characters like Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), these designs appear in the film in innovative forms.
