The recipe was meticulously crafted by Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery Collins, a British Army officer who settled in Germany. Forty-seven rare botanicals are hand-picked and distilled, then blended with the softest, most mellow spring water in Europe, sourced from the Black Forest. Next, "MONKEY 47" Sloe Gin was born when Alexander Stein, president of the Black Forest distillery and founder of the brand, sought to create a lower-alcohol alternative to the potent dry gin at his wife's request.

Sloe gin is produced four times a year. The ingredients include sloes harvested in the Black Forest, sugar, and mellow spring water. After three months of maceration (aging) in traditional earthenware, it is bottled. The label design, featuring a monkey holding a sloe branch, reflects a passion for craftsmanship evident in every detail.
