Kawasaki City Opens 'Eco-Kurashi Mirai-kan' After Launching Large-Scale Solar Power Plant

'Kawasaki Eco-Kurashi Mirai-kan' Opens

A joint project between Kawasaki City and TEPCO, one of Japan's largest solar power facilities, has commenced full operations on August 10th at the city's waste treatment center. In anticipation, Kawasaki City has opened the 'Kawasaki Eco-Kurashi Mirai-kan,' an educational facility focused on the environment. The city is evolving into a next-generation urban center in various aspects as an eco-conscious community.

A Full View of the Newly Operational Large-Scale Solar Power Plant

The Kawasaki Eco-Kurashi Mirai-kan is a facility where visitors can learn practical ways to protect the environment through hands-on experiences, focusing on three main themes: global warming, renewable energy, and resource circulation. Visitors can monitor the real-time power generation of the recently launched Kawasaki Mega Solar plant and find tips for saving electricity at home, offering a comprehensive introduction to various eco-friendly practices.

Adjacent to the facility lies the expansive Ukishima Mega Solar plant, which has just begun operation. With another solar power plant in nearby Ogishima scheduled to start operations by the end of the year, the combined power generation capacity of these two facilities will be approximately 20,000 kilowatts, enough to cover the annual electricity consumption of 5,900 households in Kawasaki Ward. The observation deck at the Kawasaki Eco-Kurashi Mirai-kan offers panoramic views of this vast solar panel array (reservations required).

Kawasaki City, which once grappled with pollution issues due to its development as an industrial hub since the modern era, is now transforming into an environmentally friendly city.
