Penfolds

Lacquerware by Yamada Heiando, Purveyor to the Imperial Household
Penfolds' Finest Wine

A dream collaboration between Australia's world-renowned premium wine and a Japanese traditional craft brand, purveyor to the Imperial Household. The aim was to express Penfolds' identity of "consistency" and "innovation." Penfolds' worldview has now reached this level of sophistication.

Penfolds is globally recognized as South Australia's premier winemaker. Among its offerings, Penfolds' "Grange" is a precious wine so highly regarded it's designated a national heritage item. Every vintage since its experimental creation in 1951 has been preserved.

Grange, listed among the top 12 wines of the 20th century alongside Romanée-Conti and Château Margaux, is a Bordeaux-style wine primarily made from Shiraz. Designed for long aging, its full-bodied character gradually unfolds over time.

Grange 2003 was the first vintage produced after Peter Gago became Chief Winemaker in 2002, with production returning to the winery's origins at Magill Estate. It exhibits notes of blackberry, praline, and herbaceous garden, complemented by mocha and malt from barrel aging, offering a powerful finish full of vitality and freshness. This is attributed to its 15-month maturation in American oak hogsheads. Its robust character is now widely recognized as Penfolds' finest wine.

The special package of Grange 2003 is housed in an original lacquerware box custom-made by Yamada Heiando. When the inner wine holder is removed, it can be used as a small box, making it an ideal gift. Incidentally, the suggested retail price for Grange 2003 alone is 90,000 yen. This means you can acquire Yamada Heiando's exquisite lacquerware for an additional 10,000 yen, presenting a remarkable value.

For these events, Penfolds' wine ambassadors, intimately familiar with the wines from their home in Australia, visit Japan to explain Penfolds' characteristics and the nuances of each bottling.
