Following the third-wave coffee movement, Bean to Bar chocolate is emerging as a new trend, with original brand shops opening one after another in Japan. The Parisian chocolate institution 'CHAPON,' which has been holding pop-up events nationwide since last summer and has already garnered attention among chocolate enthusiasts, opened its first standalone store in Japan on the 8th of this month in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. The shop offers a selection of over 20 varieties at any given time.

Over 20 Varieties Always Available, with an Attached Café
CHAPON, a Parisian Bean to Bar chocolate brand by Patrice Chapon, who previously served as a dedicated pâtissier and glacier to Buckingham Palace, opened its first standalone store in Japan on January 6, 2017, in Jiyugaoka, Meguro-ku.
The store always features over 20 types of chocolate. Among them are six distinct Bean to Bar tablets, each representing a different cacao bean origin, such as 'Venezuela (Standard),' 'Madagascar (Mild Fruity),' 'Peru (Fruity),' 'Cuba (Nutty),' '100% Venezuela (Pure Origin),' and 'Nougatine.' Additionally, there are 'Praline Agate,' where homemade pralines are coated in white chocolate and adorned with CHAPON's signature colorful, vibrant designs, and 'Oursons Praline,' also featuring original prints in a charming bear shape. Beyond Bean to Bar, the selection includes 'Aiguillettes d'Orange / Aiguillettes Gingembre,' coated in their house-made couverture.
The distinctive packaging for the tablets, inspired by cacao bean origins, and the creative designs of the boxes for pralines and bonbons are all conceived by Mr. Chapon himself. Their eye-catching, modern, and elegant color palettes have also been well-received by Parisians.
During the Valentine's Day season, a variety of limited-edition items will be available, including heart-shaped chocolates and the 'Cacao World Selection,' which offers a comprehensive tasting of chocolates from different origins. Furthermore, around springtime, mousse au chocolat, showcasing the distinct flavors of various cacao origins, is planned for release.
The store also features a café, where customers can enjoy tasting sets of tablets and bonbons imported directly from France, paired with coffee or tea served in original, beautifully crafted cups.
